It Makes Sense Now

Apr

When I was a kid, we had no activities. Well, besides piano lessons, which we hated, and church. We went to church three times a week and attended every church function or youth group activity. Well, unless it was a church ski trip. No ski trips. We might break a leg that way. My parents were into streamlining their lives. Broken legs were trouble. So were pets–we didn’t have many of those. That would have involved veterinarian visits and regular feeding. To this day, my dad doesn’t even have a bird feeder. That would attract birds. Birds poop on the driveway and the sidewalk and the cars. NO BIRDS. BIRDS ARE BAD.

Last Saturday we spent the entire day with our daughter who was participating at the Awana Games. Today she has a soccer game. Our youngest son has a robotics class at the local college. Our older son has baseball practice. ::thunk:: I am tired already. Sometimes I think my parents had it right.

Except about the birds. I like birds. I don’t even mind the poop.

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
