Careful, my oven has a Sabbath setting, which when triggered (by the DH) forces the clock to display "Sab" and nothing else, which then forces me to go to the instructions (which are unreadable/invisile to/by anyone containing the Y chromosome) to remember how to unset the Sabbath setting. In the olden days, the observant had a non observant who would come in and turn on and off all appliances so the observant could observe the Sabbath. Another bionic function I am sure!
Enjoy your new farmhouse - and when are you "resetting" the Christmas room? :typing:

Lol on how shocked everyone is on the cats. You do have me beat but I usually get the same comments (I have 6 that always stay inside (used to be 7) and my ferals/strays always stay outside - I've had 5 for ages but that changes when the males come and go. I wonder what your cats are going to think about when you get your chickens

I haven't had home made bread for years and years - not much of a baker lol.

Re the water--we needed to get some different fittings for some reason I don't totally understand. It's all mysterious Steve-the-Builder stuff.

Morgan's hand--that was just where she'd drawn on her hand with a marker! (She wrote "smile" on her hand, which she says is her new favorite word.)

I love candles, so even when I'm baking something that smells great, I'm burning candles!

Yeah, how I feel about my gadgety oven is probably how some older people feel about computers!

I think all my cats do that paw under the door thing! They're mostly indoor-outdoor cats. When the weather's nice, they spend a lot of time outside--hunting!

About my cookies--I like some types of cookies (chocolate chip, for one) thin and crispy on the edges and soft in the middle, so I make them that way on purpose by using 1/2 cup less flour than would usually be called for in the recipe and cutting the baking time just a little so they stay soft in the middle. (Our altitude isn't anywhere near that high!)

Hey you're a step ahead of me. My last bread making attempt turned out more like a brick than a loaf of bread. I need more practice. What is it about a farmhouse that makes us want to bake bread anyway?

 I can't believe how many cats you have.

Suzanne...What altitude are you? Your cookies look a little thin and spread out. If you are above about 3000 feet, back off on your sugar and leavening. Start by halving both the sugar and the leavening to see how it goes. You'll be surprised at how nicely they turn out. I'll be your bread rises faster now than it did at sea level, too. By the way, enjoy your story very much.
