Our Maremma is like this too! She plays in the mud when it rains, and I swear she is just going to be filthy until I get the time to bathe her, and somehow.. POOF! She's clean and "white" again, until it snows.. then we'll see how dirty she REALLY is.

pyr's typically don't wonder. But they will go to the neighbors for a visit to make sure all is good there. They don't chase deer, as a matter of fact, if any activity involves RUNNING any kind of distance there will be no running od fetching. They are on this earth for one thing guarding what is in there domain. They are up all night making sure all is well in the world while you sleep. If all is not going well they will let you know. I have had three over the years. Though now I have one adult male and two pyr & irish setter mix pups (such a contridiction). So far they are a wonderful set of pups. http://www.akc.org/breeds/great_pyrenees/

I don't know, but we don't have a problem with her wandering. I haven't talked to anyone who has a Great Pyr who has a problem with theirs wandering. Maybe some of the people who commented here that they have Great Pyrs will comment on that. If you're out there and you have a Great Pyr, does yours wander?

Hee hee! You know, the same thing happens with horses! They can be caked in mud, then, two days later, even without being groomed, they are velvety and clean. Must be the reason for the rollin' and shakin'! :)

coco is gorgeous! i read earlier where you mentioned that she doesn't wander...when i looked into adopted a pyr, the website cautioned the reader about that breed wandering and i cannot afford to fence all of our farm so i decided to give up having my favorite breed...why do you think she doesn't wander? does she chase deer? i also learned that pyr's are very likely to develop cruciate disease...i hope she will be the exception.

Our pyr, Phinneus (pictured on my blog) stays amazingly clean. :sun: People are always saying things like "How often do you bathe him" and "How can you stand having a white dog? They get dirty so fast". :bugeyed: I don't have the heart to tell them it's that magical teflon fur that all Great Pyrenees have. :shimmy:

My alpacas do that to. They'll go in the kiddie pool I leave out for them, then go roll in their favorite dust hole, and emerge muddy. A couple of hours later, they are back to bright white.

We have a pyr too...and this is by far the best feature they have. Especially when you have a pup that likes puddles like our Sammie!!

Great site, keep it up!!!
