VERY easy to make, VERY inexpensive (as long as you've got access to a walnut tree in June) and it is positively delicious. People love this gift, you can give it for years and years because they'll look forward to it. I have had the French version, called Vin de Noix, and it's just fantastic. I'm less crazy about the Italian version, Nocino, but it's also excellent. I've never tried the liqueur recipe, but I might try to make it this year.
