When we had our outdoor labor party this weekend, I set up this nesting box for the chickens, thinking maybe…. Just maybe….. Someday they would lay eggs in it.
I was all set to wait not just days but weeks, months, perhaps years, before my chickens decided to cooperate.
But look at that! THREE DAYS!

My chickens are so smart! And suspiciously cooperative! And maybe they’re planning something….

This is the good stuff–homemade cranberry sauce! Get to canning–the holidays are coming!!! (Seriously. It’s SEPTEMBER! How did that happen?)

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
