Deflated Daisies

May
9

It has rained here so much for the last few weeks–nearly every day–that everything is bedraggled. Including the dogs.

We had a little power outage here yesterday afternoon/evening, so I never did get to the Daily Farm yesterday. I still have to remind myself when there is a power outage that I don’t have to worry about conserving water. Since I hooked up to public water, a power outage means no water shortages. It’s lovely. But hard to remember sometimes! I still feel as if I need to hurry and fill up the bathtub when there’s a storm. I’m sure I’ll get over that. Eventually.

Other than not being able to post and not fixing the dinner I’d planned, the worst part was that I was on the phone with a horse trainer at the time the power went out, which made the phone go dead and I had to go find the non-electric phone to call back. I’ve got a great plan now for some training for the horses, and lessons for us, from an expert horse trainer and trail riding instructor. More on this later–we start in June!

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
