Could It Be?

May

Could we just have ONE rooster?

We think we’ve picked one out. He’s got a more overtly pronounced comb growth.

He’s very proud.

See how his comb growth is more pronounced than the others?

Lucky accepted her likely new female role with gracious aplomb.

“I love shoes, so I’m fine with it,” she remarked. “I would like to have some watermelon lip gloss now. And maybe a sparkly purse.”

One little chick was not so pleased.

“One rooster? And you’re saying it’s NOT ME?”

“I could be one of TEN hens? How SPECIAL.”

Heads. Will. Roll. And no, I DON’T WANT A SPARKLY PURSE.”

Seeing yours grow and how cute they are makes me want a chicken! My husband would throw a fit if I tried to incoorporate one more animal in this household though.

I don’t know if it is true or not but my friend told me if you hold the chicks on their back and they stretch their legs out its a rooster and if they pull their legs up they are hens. I got 10 pullets and from the feed store so I thought I would test the theory and they all pulled their legs us…You might want to give it a try….because some breeds of chickens just have larger combs than others. :typing:

:hissyfit: So sorry the tomboy chick can’t be the rooster. Just remind her she’s special in her own way and the boys will like her when she’s older.

You only need one rooster to get more chicks, right?

Ohhh, that is the cutest little black Rooster! The other one looks like it has a little comb too…but that little fuzzy black one is so precious! They all need little kisses on the head…tell Princess that. LOL She’ll be kissing each one on the head! Ha!

I think they are too young to tell. You should have gotten pink and blue eggs, then you would know what would hatch. Just a thought … or maybe a suggestion. he/he I just got chickens. I didn’t want too many roosters. Sometimes one rooster is too many. Even a 52 rooster. (I have one) I was told it is about 50/50, hens/rooster. Odds are, you will have more roosters. I like the pissy chick though. I think I know her!!

    :birthday2: Happy Birthday 17!!

Good luck with the one rooster idea. I though I had two out of seven but now at four weeks old realize I probably have five out of seven. :hissyfit: Keep the receipt for that sparkly purse!

Is Lucky still the biggest chick? :chicken: I’m sure she’s happy that you’ve realized she’s probably a hen. Eye-liner chick always looks angry, it will be interesting to see what that one looks like as an adult.

    Dear Lucky:
Please don’t make the same mistake I did in the 80′s ie Leg Warmers. Just don’t go there. Disco you can laugh about, but legwarmers? Besides, you have a chicken house comin’ along fine and when your legs get cold just go in. And as for the AquaNet…use SPARINGLY.

    Your friend,
    Maria
P.S. Please tell Suzanne and Princess the pic of Princess w/the cat is about the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in a long while (except for my daughter with “her” horse. Hey, I’m partial a bit…)

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
