Four Girls and a Goat Burger

Nutmeg was standing quietly in the goat house on Monday evening at feeding time. Since she’s a pig, it’s not normal for her to refuse to come to dinner. I hustled her into the stall in the barn, to Chloe’s consternation, and next thing you know, she birthed three babies (and looked decidedly less rotund).

One brown, one black, and one white. She’s into diversity, our Nutmeg! The brown one is a boy, with markings similar to Mr. Pibb, and the black one is a girl, with some white on her ears and the top of her head.

I’m particularly fascinated by the white one. I haven’t had a white goat before.

It’s also a girl.

So now I’ve got five babies romping around in the stall nursery,

By request, here is a shot of the markings on Maia’s side.

Fanta’s baby is all black with just the one small white spot on one side.

Chloe was quite disappointed to not attend the birth and get to clean up the babies. THREE!!! Think of what fun that would have been!

She hangs out at the stall door pining to be inside with the babies, who are a wee bit young to endure her playful energy once she gets going.

Kidding is done for the 2013 season here now and I’ve got four girls and a goat burger! NOT BAD.

P.S. I’m not sure I’ll sell any of them. I’ll be wethering Goat Burger II for later purposes, and since the rest are girls, I may keep them to breed back to Mr. Pibb. Usually, it’s accepted to breed back one generation. I know for sure I’ll keep Maia and the little white one, and maybe the other two, too. They aren’t quite as interesting in their coloring, though, so I might change my mind.

    What little dolls!

  7. DancesInGarden says:

That first picture, with the three babies and Nutmeg looking up? That belongs in a book for sure! As for the five romping babies, I could die from cuteness. Funny you say the brown one doesn’t have interesting markings, and I was like “ooooh, look at the brown one!” LOLOLOL! How do you resist the urge to snatch them up and snurfle them???

  8. Granma2girls says:

Absolutely adorable! Farm babies are so cute although I think kids are the cutest. Glad that the mamas seemed to accept their babies.

  9. marrypoppinz says:

Maia is SUPER Goat with that S on her side….all of the are so cute, I don’t see how you can choose which to keep.

  10. DancesInGarden says:

Oops, that’s right. I forgot the brown baby was a goatburger 😉

What a little beauty Maia is! And the new babies are adorable. Nutmeg is such a trouper! Congratulations to all!

  14. Anita says:

OMG TOOOO MUCH CUTE!!! They’re so incredibly tiny and precious and fluffffffy!!!!!

  15. Charlene says:

At first glance, I see the word “Joy” in Maia’s markings. Am I the only one who sees this? They are all so precious!

  16. rurification says:

I have a teen who does NOT like to wake up in the morning, but she loves goats. So I started reading this aloud outside her bedroom door and it popped her right up out of her sleep coma to come see these adorable pics. Great way to start the morning!

  17. outbackfarm says:

Aw, they are ALL adorable little cuties! But I was laying in bed this morning thinking, as I often do. I got to thinking about the very round doe you bought last year that was the sister to your dear sweet goat who you lost last year, and I cannot think of her name right now for anything. I have not seen hide nor hair of her at all and was wondering if you still have her? Or what happened to her? I never heard if she had kids or not. Just wondering about her.

  18. Cheryl LeMay says:

    OMG! Too cute for words.

  19. beforethedawn says:

outback, I think her name is Honey? I was just thinking about her too and wondered how she is.

    Such cute goaty babies!

  20. LizzieBeth says:

I’m with Chloe. I’d be in that stall all over those babies. They are so precious! You have got to know that I, living in a huge city, really am living on the farm through your blog. I look forward to each of your updates and I’m loving the dirt on my boots as “we” head out to feed the critters and collect the eggs. Thanks so much for bringing the farm life to me.

  21. Luv2Quilt says:

I love the pictures of the “kids”. They are the sweetest. I would be in that stall hugging all of them.
I’m like LizzieBeth I farm through you. Hopefully some day I’ll get a farm of my own. Thanks so much for sharing with me.

  22. nursemary says:

OMG they are so adorable! I would love to breed my fainters, Laverne and Shirley, but they share a pasture and shelter with 4 six-and-a-half foot tall, 100 pound emus who try to stomp anything to death that they didn’t grow up with. My donkeys are in the front pasture and they do the same thing. I see ads for goats on Craigslist here all the time and they just do not seem to sell well. Maybe it’s a good thing I am not set up to breed them.

I’ll just have to enjoy yours! Can’t wait for the first video.

  23. holstein woman says:

I also would be in there holding until I couldn’t take any more. Looks like God is replacing your losses.
    They’re just so stinking cute!

  24. MousE says:

Oh they are very cute! YOu know, I always learn something when I come here. I saw the word wether and I thought now what does that mean, and I ended up on a farm website that thoroughly explained it…. maybe a little too clearly for me lol but nonetheless this is part of farming life.

If you were interested, the website is fiascofarm.com.

Thanks for the lovely pics of the cute kids!

  25. LisaAJB says:

Oh, I love the baby goats. Keep the pictures comin! :sun:

  26. emmachisett says:

Your “family” has burgeoned! I can almost hear Nutmeg’s thoughts as she stares up at you, “See what I made?!!”

  27. mamajoseph says:

Maia looks like somebody spray painted their initials on her – “JN”. So cute.

  28. GracelandFarmsTN says:

You guys are thinking of Cookie Dough who was Clover’s sister I think. I don’t remember hearing about her lately either…..Whatever happened to her?

  29. California Paintbrush says:

It looks like Cloe got her tail into a pail of paint then backed into Maia……It has happened around my house!

  30. GracelandFarmsTN says:

Sorry Cookie Doe, not Dough. Apparently she had a single baby a while back so maybe she isn’t bred back and/or ready yet? Hers was the baby that kept playing on the hay elevator (yes I did totally just research this LOL

  31. missjane says:

Oh how adorable!! We all love babies and these are so dang cute! You do a wonderful job with the animals. Congrats!! Hugs, Jane

  32. DebbieInMemphis says:

Romping, rampaging, rollicking babies – I hope there’s video in our future 🙂 Love spring babies!!

  33. margiesbooboo says:

I believe that’s the thinnest that goat has ever been!

I love the white one and Maia. I think the one thats all black is the period in whatever is written on Maia side. The ears trimmed in white is pretty too. The brown one looks like her mother and aunts. <3. Babies!

    How's the calf?

  34. outbackfarm says:

Now I remember that buck kid. I can’t believe that was all she had. She looked like there were at least 5 kids, as big as she was. Thanks for looking, Graceland Farms! I’m not too far from you. Down below Chatt.

  35. ibpallets (Sharon B.) says:

They are all adorable! I especially love the little brown one and the white one. But, I love babies of any kind!

  36. The High Altitude Tea Duchess says:

Thank you for the shot of the side of, Maia.
