I love sheep.

Which is kind of weird, but bear with me. (All photos in this post courtesy Kathy Russell.)

I’ve been wanting a pet one for awhile now. These Dorset sheep belong to my sheep farmer friend Kathy. She has a farm in the next county over. Her Dorsets are pregnant now.

This is what Dorsets look like when they are all clipped and cleaned up.

Aren’t they adorable? Don’t they look just like those soft plastic baby toys that you squeeze to make them squeak?

In the spring, when the pregnant Dorsets deliver, I’M GETTING A BABY TOY OF MY OWN!!!!

Those are SO cute! Oh it will be so cute to see all the spring babies playing on your farm.
I also love the pic of the river in winter. It reminds me of the creek by where I grew up. I loved it as much in the winter as summer too.

There is nothing cuter than a baby lamb! maybe except for Coco, or Nutmeg and Honey… or Sparticus…. But they are SO SO cute!!

I think we are long lost sisters as we seem to think or do the same things. :mrgreen: We started out with chickens and then I got Ms. Diva which started our registered Nubian herd. My daughter gave me her dwarf goats so now we have a herd of them. She called last week that her neighbor needs to get rid of his 2 sheep and ram so next weekend when we come home from our family Christmas weekend we will bringing 3 sheep back to Hidden Haven. As you well know life sure isn’t boring around the farm

Oooh, I used to work in a dayschool that bottle raised a lambie every spring. We’d cut a hole in a diaper for their little tails and let them stay in the school with the kids. It was wonderful. Owner’s daughter kept one and had her clipped like a huge poodle. Weird, but funny.

You make me want a lamb, a kid (goat type), a giant puppy, ducks, chickens…but, oops! I don’t think the apt. management would approve. Nor would Emma, the Queen Cat. Ah, well. I’ll just have to watch yours frolic and grow. What’s next – horses? Cows? How about a Unicorn? Happy Days, :catmeow:

Sheep can be really fun–especially if they are raised with lots of people contact. I vote that you need two as well, sheepies are very flock orientated–three would be even better. ;-) I started with Dorsets and still have my original ewe–Gracie–she is the sweetest thing to walk the earth, and will always have a home here. I decided to start raising Shetlands, for their small size, extreme personality (They even wag their tails!), and marketable wool. I haven’t been disappointed. Their tails are naturally short, so no docking which is great. They also come in a large array of colors. The Dorset wool, when properly cared for, makes a nice dense springy wool, suitable for long wear items, like socks. It is not a real soft wool, but it’s durability makes it very useful. Anyway! You will love your sheepie babies.

I love those little sheep…I want one too!!! But, I don’t think I can have one, in the “burbs” – our Homeowner Assoc. may not let me keep it in my backyard, darn it!

They look cute! I think one would do ok if you had it as a pet…everyone there would become part of their “flock” You going to housebreak it too? :mrgreen: I want to see it with diapers on like remudamom told about! My mom was raised on a farm and had a pet sheep…she said they make nice pets.

I want sheep too. I’m not sure what we are going to raise them for. Hubby seems to think all animals on the farm need a useful purpose. I’m still trying to decide on a breed.

Those dorsets are cute. Would it have a job at your farm? As in, may chickens lay eggs, my goats give milk, my dogs pull security duty, what would I use a lamb for? Just eye candy? Does Kathy eat ‘em?
