The Ball Pops

Dateline: Stringtown Rising Farm

Farm officials say at least four chickens remain in bunkers after an explosion on Monday. It was around 5 p.m. when the explosion occurred, rocking the farm’s goat house. No significant damage was reported to surrounding buildings and no injuries have been verified. Farmers were unable to contain the explosion, but alerted authorities of the potential public danger. Authorities warned nearby residents as well as farmers and animals to stay indoors if possible, with doors and windows closed, though no evacuations were ordered. Shortly before the explosion, a goat known on the streets as Rotunda was seen lurking in the area, and is currently being retained in custody.

The explosion was heard miles away. Residents across the countryside said they heard a loud boom and that they could hear the earth shake.

Emergency crews were unable to do anything but look for wattles and bring some hay.

According to one Woman on the scene, “Luckily, the goat house was built for this sort of thing.”

When the dust cleared, two tiny kids were discovered inside the goat house with the suspect. She had no comment on the disaster other than to say, “I’m a very small goat. I don’t know what all the fuss is about.”

She’s expected to be held in the goat house for an undetermined period of time pending further questioning, and fondling of the kids.

P.S. Two. Both boys. Fainter crosses.

Yay! It would be cool to have an after picture of Nutmeg to compare how big she is after the explosion. Baby goats have to be the cutesy thing ever. Thanks for sharing.

  17. lavenderblue says:

OMG! Too, too cute. Poor Rotunda, let that poor baby rest. Is she a good mommy? And how come the picture of the baby on the bottom looks like a wolf? The color, the expression. Since he’s a boy and, sadly, probably not staying at Stringtown, can we name him Wolfie? Or “Jacob”, for all the “Twilight” fans? Can we, can we? Huh?

Could it possibly been a one night stand? :dancingmonster:

  18. [email protected] says:

Hey i was right..there were 2 babies! they are adorable. please put more pix on so we can see especially with mama. She was humungus and now out of misery in this heat. So happy for you all. How many mouths to feed does that make you there on the farm?

  19. TinaBell says:

Awww, little darlings. I wonder how much weight Mama lost? I’d like to see an “after” picture of her, too.

  24. VAfarmer says:

Beautiful babies Suzanne! Congrats to you on being a grandmaaaaaa! I have one about to pop this week as well, though I have to say she’s not nearly as big as your little girl was. I do remember, though, that our pygmys used to always get HUGE when pregnant, even with just one or two babies! My Java is a first time mommy so I’m hoping for the best, and a break from this heat!

  25. Julia K says:

    The babies are precious. Congrats!

  26. mrnglry says:

I remember feeling about like her one August in Bakersfield 50 years ago. How relieved she must feel. I had a beautiful baby too, but one was enough for me. ๐Ÿ˜‰ My daughter will be 50 on the 18th.

I was wondering what the loud boom was yesterday evening! I live in Virginia Beach and heard it clear over here! Never would I thought it was little ol’ Rotonda. Cute babies!

  36. marymac says:

Love the story. i just knew she was prego, and that no way was she just big bellied fat!!1 Love it.

  37. Diane in Upstate NY says:

Is that it? I thought she was acting as a surrogate mom for Beulah Petunia, by the size of her.

  38. boulderneigh says:

Woman, I think you need to import water. YOURS has something in it that only produces BOYS! (Glory Bee was conceived elsewhere, was she not?)

  39. Madeline says:

Ok now don’t you feel bad for making fun of Ms. Rotunda’s belly?? She was PREGGERS! I think she deserves extra cookies all week.. !!! CONGRATS..what cute kids.

  40. Turtle Mom says:

Awwwww…. The boys are so cute! I love their coloring! One item on my bucket list is to own one of your little goats some day. First we need a home in the country. I really enjoy your blog and hearing about all your animals. Thanks for sharing!

  41. Leck Kill Farm says:

Thank goodness! I was seriously concerned she would explode.

Do you handle the new babies to get them comfortable with humans? Or are goats naturally friendly?

I ask because I would have a hard time not picking them up and cuddling them.

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

Yes, we handle the babies. You can’t help but handle the babies. Babies tend to be skittish no matter what, it seems, if you let the mothers nurse them. Bottle babies are the really tame ones. The babies don’t really get friendly until after they get older, stop nursing, and figure out the cookie situation.

  42. patrice says:

Congratulations! I looked just like that pregnant. Somehow it looks better on her.

  43. BuckeyeGirl says:

…or you could do what I did, smuggled them up to my room to sleep with me when I was a kid (with kids). That gets them very friendly, especially when they wake up before the human kid does and come downstairs for breakfast before the human kid does.

  44. yvonnem says:

BOYS AGAIN?! They are precious little things! I guess if they were girls, it wouldn’t be good, since they shouldn’t be bred with Mr. Pibb. He is the proud papa, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  45. chickenherd says:

What are you going to call them? Since they’re Nutmeg’s babies, do they get spice names like Thyme and Clove and Basil?

  46. Ms.Becky says:

oh my. can cute get any cuter?

  47. alba says:

I am sure Nutmeg will have her girlie figure back in no time. The boys are beautiful, How could you sell them I’ll never know but thats farming for you.Congrats Susanne & Nutmeg.

  48. JaniceAndrea says:

  49. Sonia says:

Oooooh!!! I love the name Basil…as in Basil Rathbone!!! Ok, if I had more fenced in area, I would love to grab them both up ๐Ÿ™‚
