Where’s your tail, Annabelle?
img_58269
What’d you do with it?
img_58461
You’re not gonna tell me, are you?

And neither is this one.

It’s been about three weeks since Annabelle’s tail was banded. It disappeared this week while she was sleeping on the porch. She had it with her when she came up from the goat yard to spend the night on her blankie with the other dogs. (She still thinks she’s a dog.) In the morning, it was gone. The porch gates are locked shut at night, so where did it go???

I think I have an idea.

I think–

Did you eat Annabelle’s tail, Coco? WAKE UP, COCO! DID YOU EAT IT?

Coco: “I don’t remember.”

    E-YUCK
I can’t believe that I just kept reading..even though I knew what was coming.

  2. Sue says:

    :hungry: nom, nom, nom?

Well, as Grandma used to say, “Waste not, want not!” :happypuppy:

  3. CindyP says:

oh no!! I knew that was coming!! Seriously? Do you think so?

  4. Diane says:

ewww dogs can be so gross. Could the tail have fallen off the porch?? Really that is just gross if Coco ate it. Why Coco why??

Coco you need to tell Annabell that she is a sheep not a dog. Looks like she is getting big enough to stay in with the sheep soon. Break it to her gentely and she will be ok with it in time. Tell her you will visit every day so she will not be all alone.

  5. Nancy in Atlanta says:

Oh, Annabelle, you have become a sheep! But you are still adorable. Coco, did you really? No, Suzanne, I think the mean rooster grabbed it and is keeping it as a weapon. :sheep: :purpleflower:

  6. Suzanne says:

Oh my word! So not what I needed to read this morning! Now I’m gonna think about that all day… yuck! Annabelle sure is growing tho… no matter how big she gets, she’s still going to have that sweet face.

CoCo probably became interested in it while sniffing and licking her booty. She should poop it out ina day or so–or get a hairball. LOL
    :woof: :sheep:
Annabelle doesn’t seem to mind not having a tail!

  8. Donna Mc says:

Ack! Coco!! That is too funny. Your pictures really TELL THE TALE…oops, did I really say that out loud!?! *G*

  9. margiesbooboo says:

Coco told me that she loves spring lamb especially with fava beans.

  10. Christine says:

Coco is going to be such a great guardian dog! I’ve been reading up on the subject and they say if the dog is raised with the baby lambs they really get attached. Annabell is one very lucky little lamb. Even if Coco ate her tail! lol

  11. Christine says:

How are the Jacobs by the way? I’m having trouble finding any in Indiana.

  12. The Jillybean says:

Eww, I was eating while reading this. LOL.

  13. Terri Coogler says:

Annabelle gets cuter every day. :sheep:

  14. SuzieQ says:

Mom, Annabelle gave me a chewy!! I LOVE Annabelle!! :snoopy: :snoopy:

  15. Anita says:

That is nasty. And hilarious. Thanks for the laugh this morning! :eating:

  16. Matthew says:

Let’s hope Coco didn’t eat the tail, you certainly don’t want your guard dog to develop a taste for sheep. You can tell, check Coco’s teeth, if she did eat the tail, there will be wool on her teeth. Pay close attention to the back teeth. This is an age old method to find sheep-killing dogs, if they eat any part of a sheep, the wool will get caught around their teeth every time, and it won’t come loose for weeks. Check around the gum line. You can also take a soft bristled toothbrush and brush Coco’s teeth and see if there is any wool on the toothbrush.

Be forewarned, it has been my experience that once a dog develops a taste for sheep, they can’t be cured! I hope and pray that the tail just fell through the cracks on the porch.

  17. Linda says:

Glad Annabelle finally lost her tail. Hate to think Coco ate it but dogs do that kind of thing. Will Annabelle be moving in with the sheep soon?

  18. midwestmom says:

    Love the pictures.

  19. Kate says:

How weird is it to chew on a piece of your friend that has fallen off? Lucky that Coco has the whole “I’m a dog!” excuse, haha

  20. waterbedmike says:

See how easy that was? Less than a minute to apply the band. Sit back and wait. No tail – and Annabelle gets to join the ranks of the big sheep. As for what happened to the tail? Who knows.

  21. Traci Best says:

EWWWWW!!! COCO!!! That is DISGUSTING! LOL! Sounds like something my Buddy would do!

    **SHUDDER**

    Yuckers!!!

  22. The Retired One says:

    That was too funny!!!
I love Coco and if I were a lady dog, I would be totally HOT for him.

By the way, your last post said it was a derrick. What is a derrick?

  23. trish says:

ewww! I was afraid you were going to come to that conclusion. Coco, tails are not for eating. Yuck!! lol :sheep:

  24. Gail says:

Annabelle is now a big girl sheep! As for Coco, “innocent until proven guilty by a jury of her peers”. Coco will be pleading the fifth I’m sure!

  25. sherry says:

    Fresh rawhide Coco? EW!

  26. Barbee' says:

Some farmers/ranchers who have guard dogs that live with the stock with strong bonding, such as I assume this one will in time, let the dog eat the afterbirth.

  27. stephaniej says:

Coco may have eaten the tail. A good guardian dog will eat things like that to keep predators away. If the herd is out in the field, and a goat or sheep gives birth, they will eat the afterbirth and clean everything up to make sure predators won’t be attracted by the smell. It’s their “job” by nature, and Coco will be a wonderful guardian dog!

  28. jean says:

As her lawyer I’ve advised Coco to use her right to remain silent.

  29. Barbara Watkins says:

Oh my gosh! You couldn’t make that up…as they say. Well maybe a novelist could (ha ha) but I never would’ve thought of such a thing. I know Coco loves Annabelle but I’m worried that now she may be seeing her in a more “appetizing” light. eek!
    Smiles, Barbara

  30. Doris says:

My guess is that you are correct! Coco ate the tail. Dogs will do this. My hubby gave our Jack Russell a squirrel tail to play with and he ate the whole thing! He wanted to eat the rest of him too, but I wouldn’t let him. I guess that was like giving him a hairy bone to chew on!! Doris

  31. catslady says:

OMG I laughed ’til I cried – that is one story that isn’t going to make your children’s book even though the pictures were still adorable.

  32. Donna says:

LOL Coco, you little stinky! They are so precious…wish I could hug all the animals! :sheepjump:

  33. Estella says:

Suzanne, you take the best pictures—-and make up the best stories to go with them.

  34. Brenda Kula says:

I don’t know whether to be repelled or mesmerized! I think I am both. I have never even heard of this. Shows I don’t live on a farm, doesn’t it? Oh well, I finally have chickens in my yard. They’re just not living, breathing ones like yours.
    Brenda

  35. Susan says:

Coco told me Rat Dog did it. :snoopy:

  36. c reinhart says:

    Hahahaha…tastes like chicken…burp!

  37. Jurilei says:

What an absolutely great blog you have!!! Loved the pictures, loved your past posts!!!

    Juri

  38. Lucy says:

That’s so cute. Do dogs eat sheep tails? News to me.

  39. Wendy says:

When my lambs lost their tails I was feeding them their bottles and they were wagging their tails like crazy and something flew through the air…there went one tail. A few minutes later something else went flying..there went another. Luckily there were no dogs around.

  40. Leah says:

Maybe Coco didnt eat it, maybe she buried it like a bone? Guess we’ll never know. 😮

  41. shannon says:

i’ll read all the comments later as i don’t have time now, but i caught a glimpse and will echo the sentiment….EEEEWWWW, GROSS….
when i saw the header i thought “awwwww, poor annabelle,” and that was quickly replaced by “dude, that is gross”…totally not what i expected to see whilst shoveling potatoes in my mouth this morning…..”
but i love hearing about it all, anyway!!!!!

  42. Ruth C says:

That was absolutely the best picture to go with the accusation! But still icky to think about.

  43. Jennifer whitmore says:
