Winter Plan in Action!

Jan

Winter finally reared her brittle, flaky, oft cruel yet oft beautiful head today and we got our first real snow!

I prepared the sheep’s stall in the barn and whisked them in there. Moving sheep is easy if you don’t have to go outside any fences AND no other animals are involved. Since I got them separated from the goats already, it was no trouble to take a can of feed and funnel them into the stall. I shut the door on them, prepared another stall with water and hay, and went for the goats.

The goats were hiding in the goat house, afraid the winter weather would muss their coiffures. Goats are picky that way. They always want to look their best. They paraded right out after me and my can of food, though.

And into their stall in the barn!

Cozy and warm for the snowstorm.

They’ll stay in their stall until the weather lets up.

But I let the sheep back out (with their stall open to return if they want shelter) because sheep could care less about their coif. Or they don’t know they have a coif.

I’m not sure they’ve noticed it’s snowing.

I love the last pic of the sheep in the snow! It sounds like you have gotten your winter plans down pat. Have a cozy evening by the fireplace, knowing your animals are snug and warm.

Here I was admiring your lovely green grass all this time.I bet they will enjoy the warmth and comfort of that old barn. They had no idea their life was about to improve too. We got cold and wind but that’s all. Keep the snow…please! :happyflower:

The weather is just so darned weird! I was actually surprized when I saw you had snow! I live in a totally no snow place, so usually don’t pay it any mind…but this time of year I have gotten used to reading your snow stories.
    Hurrah for the new barn!

So much easier, and I’ll bet the whole gang is happy to be dry and (relatively) warm. And you can get ‘er done and be back inside drinking hot cocoa in no time. Sweet!

I think your red barn looks even prettier in the snow.

Jealous! Love LOVE your farm, and what’s more perfect than a farm and a snowstorm? I know-a farm, a snowstorm, and baking while looking out the kitchen window at that farm in a snowstorm! Thank you for sharing.

It sound like you have things organized just right now. Congrats! This should make your life and the animals a lot easier.

We are cold, but no snow.

I LOVE your barn. Your animals are so lucky to have a nice dry warm place to go in weather like this. I know what ya mean about those sheep. I have 3 Katahdin ewes and 2 Finn ewes and a Finn-Suffolk ram. It’s funny how I get their stall all bedded down with nice dry straw and the wooly sheep go out in the cold wet grass for the night. The short haired ewes stay in. But they can come and go too.

That snow looks so pretty coming down with the red barn in the background. Beautiful place you have.

I hadn’t realized that sheep eat so much! We’re deciding which we’d rather have, goats or meat sheep. It’ll be a while, though, before we do either.
