Grapevine twisting around a tree on our farm.
My latest endeavor–learning how to make wreaths from wild grapevines. They look so creepy-cool in trees.
:treehugger: When I was a kid, grapevines were for swinging over the river. Now I think–wreaths! I love those grapevine wreaths you get at primitive craft stores for sometimes $50 and more. What the heck, my farm is draped in them. Time to learn to make my own! So I grabbed some pruning shears and took off up the hill…….
I have a lot to learn, though….

First, I took vines that were mostly too thick. I need to get the thinner vines. Instead of being lazy and grabbing what’s handy, I need to get more adventurous and get the ones that are healthier, still growing, and pliable. But, I managed okay. I soaked the vines I gathered in a wash tub to soften them up, shaped them, and fastened them with floral wire. I used fresh greenery at hand, including some apple tree branches complete with fruit, along with some flowers, to decorate it–just for practice since dried decor would last longer. I need to work on my drying techniques, too, but for now, this was my fledgling effort. And it was fun!
Tried anything new lately?

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....

Beats me how you find the time to try, with writing deadlines, children and fur kids. I’m impressed!
-Kim, who has the time but does not have the patience for crafting :-D
