The Studio at Sassafras Farm

Convenient to Charleston and I-79, the studio is located at Sassafras Farm, home of Chickens in the Road, in wild and wonderful Roane County, West Virginia. Rent the studio for your own event, or come visit for a workshop, camp, tour and petting zoo, or just to have fun!

Workshops or camp & breakfast can also be combined with studio rental.

Studio rental includes an equipped health department-approved kitchen and seating for dining and meeting inside the studio as well as access to the spacious decks and grounds. Indoor seating for dining can accommodate up to 15. Outdoor dining with covered seating is available to accommodate groups up to 100. Use the studio kitchen to serve your own meals at your event or purchase prepared meal service with your rental. All studio rentals also come with access to the nature trails and petting zoo along with a guided farm tour.

Party, dine, or conference overlooking the scenic pastures and woods. Enjoy the sights and sounds of a real working farm, complete with an assortment of friendly farm animals and a big red barn. Set your next event on the farm!

Cell and internet service is available at Sassafras Farm. Smoking is not permitted inside the studio and is only permitted in limited locations on the farm. Alcoholic beverages are restricted to wine/beer. Firearms are not allowed. Hay rides and pony rides may be arranged in advance for an additional fee.

If you’re planning a meeting, party, family reunion, wedding, or other event and would like to visit the studio in advance of finalizing plans, fill out a Studio Rental Request below and check the option to schedule an appointment before completing registration/deposit.

Studio Rental Options

The studio is available for meetings, company events, birthday parties, family reunions, and weddings as well as for kitchen-only rental. (Kitchen-only rental is for use of the health department-approved kitchen for caterers or others needing an approved kitchen for their food prep. Kitchen-only rental does not include a farm tour, access to nature trails or petting zoo, or meeting/dining facilities.)

Half day rentals are 4 hours. Full day rentals are 8 hours. The studio is available between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Party tent canopies are available for rental. Each 10 x 30 canopy can accommodate up to 30 with covered seating. Tables for seating up to 25 are provided free of charge inside the studio with studio rental. Outdoor tables, with seating for 8 per table, are provided at $5 per table for setup. (Chairs come with table rental.) Covered seating on the decks is also available at no charge other than table rental. You are also welcome to bring your own tables, chairs, canopies, etc. if you prefer. Charcoal grills (charcoal included) are also available for your use at no charge.

Camp & Breakfast may also be available during your studio rental. Camp & Breakfast is available from May 1 to November 1, with limited space. If interested in camping during studio rental, you must also fill out a Camp & Breakfast request. Find more information and the form here: Camp & Breakfast.

Workshops are charged at $55 per participant for a three-hour workshop and can be combined with a studio rental to include a workshop for your group during your event. You can also arrange a private workshop without studio rental. For more information, see the Workshops page.

Full day studio rental: $125
Half day studio rental: $75
Tent canopy rental: $15 per canopy
Tables (outside the studio): $5 per table setup (comes with 8 chairs)
By the hour kitchen-only rental: $10/hour
Prepared meal service: $8/person per breakfast or lunch, $12/person per supper
Hay wagon rides: $25 per hour
Pony rides: $25 per hour

To find out if the studio is available for your event date, submit a Studio Rental Request. No deposit is due at this time. You will be notified if your date is available and, if so, be provided additional information and a rental contract to complete your rental registration. A deposit of 25 percent will be due at time of rental registration to hold your date. The remainder will be due 7 days before your event.
