A Very Big Cookie

Jan
23

Morgan has never been a big fan of cake. (She doesn’t like pie, either! What is up with that?) In particular, she doesn’t like icing on cake, and this year she asked for a big cookie. No cake at all. Just a big cookie.

To make the big cookie, I made a regular size batch of cookie dough. (Right off the back of the chocolate chips package.)

Spread the cookie dough around in the pan until a reasonable circle is achieved.

This is the easiest birthday “cake” I’ve ever made.

Definitely easier than the year I made two spaceship cakes for a joint birthday party for Ross and Weston, little aliens landing from the ship included. I’d show you a photo of that if I could lay my hands on one. It was magnificent. The entire birthday party was quite elaborate with all sorts of homemade spaceship games and prizes. I’m so glad I’ve retired from managing children’s birthday parties. It was fun, but I’m okay with being done.

I’m not an artiste, but I did my best to decorate the giant cookie in festive fashion. Okay, I drew a floppy-looking flower on it and wrote Happy Birthday, Morgan. But that was fine. She loved it!

(Do you see? I hung a potholder on the knobby thing. For no good reason. FYI, a recipe card or photo won’t stay, too thin.)

Then–

Oh, yes then.

I had a terrible internal revelation. I’d made a dreadful mistake, an irretrievable lapse, a mortal faux pas.

But I came up with a plan!

Morgan stood there holding her big cookie, waiting expectantly.

I yanked open a drawer and fumbled through it. I pulled out a lighter and flicked the Bic. I said, “Morgan, blow it out!” She said, “What?”

I said, “Blow it out! Then I’ll light it fifteen more times and it will be JUST LIKE YOU HAD BIRTHDAY CANDLES!”

She said, “YOU ARE TAKING ME TO THE STORE AND BUYING ME BIRTHDAY CANDLES!”

Sometimes, she just doesn’t think I’m that funny.

That is great!!! What a sweet girl too. You are a good mom making her just what will make her happy. Love the teen years. Well when they are not complaining about something or not willing to do something for you. PMS time. Other than that they are great time. lol. Happy Birthday Morgan!!!

Even a good sport has her limits, lol!
Oddly enough, I saw one of those knobby things at my local thrift store the other day…never saw one before until you posted. It had a label on the back that said “dish towel or plastic bag holder”. They seem quirky.

I bet Morgan loves it that it’s just the two of you at home now, you can have so much girl fun! I love the potholder hanging on the cupboard, that’s perfect. And the giant cookie is great! I’ll have to remember that one.

When my now 17 year old daughter turned 15, she also didn’t want a cake. She wanted jello. Yep…jello. So I made her a giant bowl of jello, and yes, of course, she ALSO “needed” candles. Try to take pictures when your kid is laughing and holding a giant quivering bowl of fruity flavored flames!!! I love the memories. :woof:

Perfect :) My grandson requested a cookie for his birthday, he too doesn’t like cake/frosting. Mine was even easier though, I bought a roll of cookie dough and let him pat it out on the pizza pan ! He’ll never forget his 8th birthday “cake” :)

Happy Birthday, Morgan! :happyflower: 16 is a major birthday, enjoy!

Susan: You’re hilarious. My sister and I tend to get the same kind of response from our husbands, even though we know we’re quite amusing and crack ourselves–and each other–up all the time.

The photo with the lighter makes it look like you’re her number one fan.
    Scratch that.
The photo with the lighter is PROOF of you being her number one fan.
What I wouldn’t give to have a photo like that with my mom…
    Happy birthday, Morgan.
    Revel!

I love the cookie birthday cake. I have several family members who have birthdays in March. I set aside one day in the month and have them all up for a birthday dinner. I make a regular birthday cake, a cookie birthday cake, and tons of cupcakes. It goes over pretty well. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MORGAN!! :happyflower:

Morgan knows what she wants.. you did a beautiful job! Who says you can only have cake for your birthday! haaa Love it! Love the potholder holder, nice touch. My hubby didn’t know where to find the birthday candles on my birthday and didn’t want to ask, so he used a full sized tapered candle! hah

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
