In a Pickle? (BBB)

Jan
4

Pints of Sweet Gherkins right out of the canner.

If you’re in a pickle, you need a pickle.

A whole jar of ’em, that is. OR a jar of jam. Or jelly. These are my go-to charms after I get done batting my eyelashes when fix-it people come over. No matter what is wrong, who you have to call, what they have to do–when they get done? Go get a jar of something.

It makes them not want to charge you so much! Seriously! I have this phenomenon under investigation and I’m making pie charts. Or pies. Whatever. If you have to call someone, just go get a jar of pickles. Or jam. Or jelly. Trust me.

And if that’s not a reason to can, I don’t know what is.

I’ve been on hiatus from BBB giveaways lately due to The Great Upheaval, otherwise known as moving. I’m BACK! Having been away from my regular BBBs, I’m going to play catchup on a few and do extras. I’ve got three BBBs up for grabs today!

All through the big canning season (pickles, tomatoes, etc.) I was working a lot. Now it seems we have a winter slow down. (I can’t figure it, I work at a local-ish coffee chain and things do slow way down after Christmas. Wouldn’t ya think winter is when people would WANT coffee?) Anyway, with time on my hands, I’m looking for deals on winter produce in order to learn canning. I still haven’t tried out that pressure canner that I got such a deal on last year. Guess I’m kind of a coward when it comes to trying new stuff.

    A BBB might help.

I shared my applesauce with my acupuncture Dr. His son is autistic and LOVED it because it was ONLY apples- nothing added.
Whenever I have someone over to do any work- they go home with applesauce or beets or peaches.
I have a sticker on the lids reminding them “You can return the jar and ring for future canned treats” and it is heartwarming to see how many DO.

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
