Today’s BBB giveaway is Tart and Sweet: 101 Canning and Pickling Recipes for the Modern Kitchen by Kelly Geary and Jessie Knadler. This is a beautiful book, packed with gourmet recipes and mouthwatering photos, but it’s also a basic canning guide. It strikes a balance for beginners and experienced canners with complete tutorials for boiling water bath canning and pickling along with fundamentals like blackberry jam and tomato ketchup while also serving up creative twists like spiced pear cardamom butter and cinnamon blood orange marmalade. The experienced canner will not be bored! For those of you who also enjoy the unusual, there are recipes to can up such items as nettles, fiddleheads, and ramps. I was going to try out the pickled ramps recipe myself, but by the time I made some other things, including planting some of my ramps whole, I didn’t have enough, but in case you do, here is the recipe: Pickled Ramps.

I need this book! Funny how things come full circle. I just finished Jessie Knadler’s new memoir “Rurally Screwed,” which lead me to look for this canning book. So pick me, since otherwise I would have to buy it!
