Attitude Adjustment

Aug
13

All the interruptions to drive kids around? It’s not all bad. In fact, it’s pretty cool. Often it’s not just my two boys but assorted others along with them. I love a carload of sweaty, goofy boys. They’re pretty fun.

And the heat and the pop-up showers that create muggy hell? Okay, it’s HOT. But wow, this time of year has some great side benefits. Fresh sweet corn from the garden. Jumping in the river to cool off from the heat. And beautiful sunsets over the West Virginia hills (like this one, left). And all your cooler weather vibes must have helped because temps are going to be lower this week!!!

It’s not zero degrees and my pipes aren’t frozen. Can’t beat that. What about you? Thankful for anything despite the heat?

Free Book Friday winner: #12, Ellen! Email me! (Ever wonder how I come up with winners? I grab the closest person–or sometimes I email a friend–and say, quick, pick a number between 1 and x–however high the comments are–and shake them down till they give me a number, LOL.)

    Glorious sunset, Suzanne!

    Congrats to Ellen, BTW.

I start each day with an “attitude of gratitude.” Just to be alive and healthy is a blessing. I have a townhouse, a good job with people I like, my fur kids, people who love me, clothing, food…What else is there? I’m darned lucky not to be living in a hovel somewhere and having to scrounge through garbage for scraps of food, lucky not to live with war and strife and terror every day. So what if I have high debt and can’t afford things that others take for granted (car, new clothes, etc.)? That’s just “gravy!”

Most of all, these days I’m thankful for my Self…because it’s taken me decades to become ME, if that makes sense.

    Wishing everyone a wonder-full day….

    -Kim

Suzanne, that is one beautiful picture!

I’m thankful for all the fresh veggies from the garden. You just can’t beat the wonderful taste of them when they are just picked! :hungry:

I love summer…until July. Then, I spend a lot of time wishing it was fall! I’m counting the days my kids go back to school (and to preschool)….it’s only a few hours a couple of days a week…but for me it’s FREEDOM! I have so many plans of how to spend that time…

We’re under about 400 feet of smoke right now. Not too many evacuations yet, but I’m sure it’s coming.

    Love the picture. Congratulations Ellen.

We are also going to have cooler weather this week. No matter how hot it gets during the day, early mornings are still usually quite cool and pleasant for taking nice long walks. Each morning I am very thankful for having good health to be able to enjoy taking my walks and whatever else I may want to do even if it is hot weather outside. Having good healthy to me is an absolute blessing.

I’m thankful for family, friends, and a good stack of books to keep me happy. I love summer, lazy days to just go swimming, or play in the park, camping and fishing, having a cold one with your friends around the bonfire. :shimmy: Sometimes you don’t appreciate these things as much as you should. The sunset picture is pretty Suzanne. Hope everyone has a great day. Congrats to Ellen!!

    Oh yay! Thanks, Suzanne. :)

I love summer, despite the unusually scorching heat this year. I’m grateful for my family being able to spend it together, even if we don’t do anything too exciting.

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
