Dr. Pepper, left, and Fanta’s little brown one.
Fanta’s little brown one really needs a name as we are planning to keep her. (We were actually planning to sell the little black one, mostly because she was such an identical twin to Fanta. I’m only keeping a select number of does, so I want to mix up the colorings of the ones we keep. Feel free to suggest names for the little brown one!) But–this post is about one of my other “kids”–the human kind. I just found out that Weston is now a National Merit Finalist!
I still don’t know whether or not he will receive the scholarship. Some of the finalists get the scholarship and some don’t. It may be several more months before we know. (The National Merit program is a pretty long, drawn-out process.)

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....

So many good names! I have to admit I like Sassafras, and Ginger(ale), and I’d forgotten all about Shasta, we used to have that in Ohio too. Frosty was a favorite brand of Root Beer when I was a kid too! Lots of other good ones like Tab, Moxie, Macchiato is great too, but should it be Macchiata since it’s a girl? I don’t know about those rules in Italian words. Maybe it would lead to a new line of coffee related names!
Nilla, for Nilla (vanilla) wafers? Hey, it’s a cookie thing! Sugar is cute, but she’s brown and you don’t want to go with Brown Sugar, cause that would get abbreviated to BS and that’s not so good.

I was already thinking Shasta. Someone beat me to it. But I think Vess (as suggested above) is a pretty name for such a pretty little girl. YooHoo would be a crack up! I can just hear you calling YooooooHooooo! Tab is cute too.

Now about that precious little brown baby – I think she looks like a root beer float – dark on the bottom & lighter brown and frothy on the top. I thought about “Black Cow” since that’s A&W’s float, but calling a goat “cow” might give her a complex. So how about A&W? Or Cappuccino – and call her Cappy.

Caramel, Fawn or Faun, Fenella, Flora Frappaccino Mocha ( Alba lol) Effy piobar its Gaelic for Pepper. butterscotch I liked this too nutmeg is known by its Latin name as (myristica) Bathsheba k that might be pushing it…
Have fun choosing.
