Beam Her Up, Scotty

Since Mother Nutmeg loves her Big Macs even more than she loves her baby, there was no keeping her in the goat house. After making repairs last week, this past weekend she found a new way out. Repeated checks of the goat house revealed no escape hatch. I believe she was using her Star Trek teleportation device. So, it was in and out, in and out, because no sooner did she have her Big Mac than she wanted back in so she could brag to the other mommies about it. Or get back to Dr. Pepper. Hard to tell which. Dr. Pepper, meanwhile, would sob helplessly in the goat house over his mommy’s absence. Until she gave him his own teleportation device and he joined her at McDonald’s.

At which point, tired of the in and out, the farmer said, “FINE. YOU CAN STAY OUT.” Dr. Pepper is two months old. He’s a big boy now. This weekend, I’ll probably let everybody else out and the goat house maternity ward will return to normal business. All the goat babies (lambs, too) are for sale, if anyone is interested! (Except Dr. Pepper.)

LOL…our old beagle buddy use to have a dog and he said that dog could get out of any pen/kennel or dog box. He would say that you’d lock him in the dog box and by the time you got to where you were going, he’d be standing on top of it. The big laugh was that he’d say if I ever get put in jail. Bring that dog to me!

It’s a good thing the weather has gotten warmer. That’s all Nutmeg was trying to tell you…It’s Springtime!

We had kept a cow and calf in the barn since they were born on Thursday and finally let them out on Sunday. The little calf ran around and around so giddy to have lots of room to play. The cow ran helplessly after him telling him to slow down. It was so cute. :moo:

And Nutmeg gets her way. Score one for the goats! 🙂

Do you think that Nutmeg would share the secret to that Star Trek teleportation device? I could really use one (hmm, boring board meeting? The dentist wants to drill deeper? I’m so gone…if only Nutmeg would tell me how to do it)!

It’s so embarrassing when you’re outsmarted by your animals. :pawprint:

Goats are also secretly Olympic high jumpers. They can also use tiny ledges (that you think are too small for anything over 5lbs) to hurl themselves over to an opening. It’s like a video game wall jump move. We couldn’t figure out how our big Toggenburg was getting out until we hid and waited for her to escape. She launched herself over a 5ft high door! INCONCEIVABLE! In the end we got her a mineral block and she stopped trying to escape. Maybe your Nutmeg is doing something similar.

Maybe it was the thought of a BigMac AND a Shamrock Shake!

They’re growing up? *sniff, sniff* Picture updates on the kidlets? My kiddos have been asking about them. 🙂

lol – shamrock shake – I bet they were disappointed it was minty and not real shamrocks. :clover:

This is why I keep trying to explain to my husband that you need land, real land to raise animals. If Nutmeg were to climb out of her pen for an Big Mac at my house, well, it’s not Mc Donalds but there is a restaurant or 20 only a few feet down the road.

And I hear one of them makes an excellent goat stew. :bugeyed:

I needed a goat post! Would love to see pictures of the other goat and lamb babies as well! :happyflower:

Oh, dear, Rotunda! Do you want fries with that? You’re not being a very good example for Dr. Pepper!!

Sure she is! 😉 She’s teaching him survival skills! :sheepjump:

I was having a terrible time with my 2 Great Pyrenees, actually only one. Sam was getting out of places that I couldn’t imagine something that big could get out of. As he got out, I would check where there was hair and fix it. Yesterday I thought I had everything secure but he showed up at the back door. I put him back in his fence and watched as he rolled the wheel on the gate back as far as he could and shimmied through. Fixed that opening and have had a wonderful 24 hours+ with no escape.
