Butterfly Land

Butterflies–everywhere! I love the butterflies here. I never saw so many butterflies before I moved to the country. They swoop in front of me as I walk, as I drive, and surround me on the farm. It’s like a Disney movie every day. I love them!

And then there’s this redbird.

It’s been perching on the side of my car every day for months. Every. Day.

I will start to worry when you say that they’ve begun talking to you. Or sewing fancy dresses for you. In the mean time, enjoy. lol 😉

I remember summers when there were few if any butterflies. This year they are everywhere! So glad they’re coming back. We have several cardinal families in the area. They are so beautiful in the winter against the dark pine woods and white snow.

Great shot of the cardinal. I’ve seen some butterflies this year, but here in West Tennessee, it’s been the Year of the Dragonfly. They are everywhere!

I use to have a cardinal that sat on my mirror too! He use to love to look at himself. Only he liked to leave lots of evidence of his visit all over the mirror! I use to put an old sock on the mirror every night to protect my car.

I commented on my blog the other day about the number of butterflies this year! and HONEY BEES! I have been so happy to see honey bees again. Not sure why they have made such a come back this year but I am glad they have! We have also had hundreds of dragonflies.

We love our Cardinals up here in NH. They usually turn up in the Spring and again in the fall. Wasn’t sure where they were hanging out the rest of the time. Now I know; they’re down south with you! Send him our best (the gents are always bright red – females less so)and we’ll see him in a few months.

You have such a sweet, little, bird friend!

Actually, is that oregano that has gone to flower? I have some that comes back every year and takes over a corner of my flowerbed. The bees and butterflies LOVE these tiny blossoms. I finally had to cut them off cause our mailperson (a woman actually) wouldn’t deliver mail last Friday (she said but I don’t believe her) because she was afraid on the bees and she had to go by that bush to get to the front door mailbox. Herbs in flower seem to attract bees and butterflies but they are never on the lists of plants to plant in your garden to attract them. Don’t know why.

Yes, folks, that is a cardinal, probably a Northern Cardinal, the state bird of Illinois. We see lots and lots of them and he’s a brightly colored little guy. Females are duller shaded.

Looks like that redbird may be your animal spirit guide. Or maybe he just feels at home at your farm.

The cardinal is the state bird of West Virginia. We have the pleasure of them all year long. And yes, they are extremely beautiful in winter with a snow on. I have a picture I took in my back yard with probably 25 of them resting in snow covered trees/brush around my black oil sunflower feeder with the snow on. Gorgeous!

Mister Bluebird on my shoulder :snuggle:
    It’s the truth, it’s “actch’ll”
    Ev’rything is “satisfactch’ll”
    Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
    Wonderful feeling, wonderful day! :snoopy:

Seems like this year there are so many different kinds of butterflies. I haven’t seen many hummingbirds, though 🙁

  15. Linda Goble says:

Yes, I too had a problem with a cardinal perching on my mirror. It would look in the mirror and fight it. Cardinals can be very territorial. I see them chase each other if another one is around. That is why I only have one pair that comes to my feeder. Also use to have a female cardinal that would knock up against our house windows looking at herself and fighting. It used to make me mad when trying to get kids to sleep for a nap. she would go to any window she could see and bang up at it.
