Cookies from the Sky

Sometimes I’m too lazy to put my boots on and go down to the gate.

She’s on it.

She watches my every move. She’s in position.

She’s got to beat everyone else to the cookie.

She scores!

By the time I toss down a second one, she knows she’ll have competition.

Clover hates competition.

Sometimes even the chickens are competition. The other day, I was tossing down cookies and a chicken made off with an ENTIRE cookie. Not a crumb, an ENTIRE gingerbread man cookie, gripped in its beak. I wished I’d had my camera with me to capture the chase and hullabaloo, but it looked something like this video from a while back. Here it is again in case you missed it:

YOu’r not just the gate keeper, you’re the cookie tosser. You and she have it down to a science. GOOD JOB. I’d be dropping more also. :dancingmonster:

    Too funny!

That is one of my favorite memories of the farm….dropping some food to see ALL of the animals (even the dogs off the porch) go running!

Instead of Dialing for Dollars, it’s Trolling for Treats!

  4. Ramona says:

I can imagine! My hens only have other hens to run from. Bet its so much funnier watching them run from goats, donkeys and cows!

  5. Nancy K. says:

    Great video!
It’s so funny how they announce when they’ve found something good to eat and then have to run with it to keep everyone else from taking it…

  6. Alyce Shane says:

Reminds me of our favorite pastime, “Chicken Football”. We’ll throw some yummy, too-big-to-swallow-whole tid-bit out in the yard and watch a chicken take off with it, only to be tackeled by the flock, then another chicken takes off in the other direction with it, then the flock tackles her, and on and on it replays! This spring we’re going to paint yard lines in the grass. Great fun!

  7. lilac wolf says:

“hey! I could totally help you eat that cookie!” Too funny!

That was the calmest chase I’ve ever seen. It get violent here when the chickens steal the goat treats. I wish my animals were closer to the house! It would be great to be able to look out and see them at anytime.

  14. Lynne says:

Just a warning, don’t ever get between a farm animal and a cookie!

Great job, Clover! Those goats following the chicken in the video look like they’re saying “Um…hello! Your ARE going to share that, right?” LOL! Farm animals are a hoot!
