Day in Morgantown

We went to Morgantown on Saturday to watch West Virginia University play Bowling Green. The day started early with my stake-out in front of the courthouse to get in line to make the Camp Sheppard reservation. When we arrived in Morgantown, we stopped by the dorm to check up on Weston.

We brought some very odd shoes that were a gift from his girlfriend.

I’ve never seen shoes like this before, but believe it or not, they are shoes, not socks.

View of Morgantown outside his dorm window:

Weston has made himself a schedule for every day of the week:

I like how he reminds himself to take a shower and brush his teeth. I thought that was hilarious. (He might forget otherwise!) Then we headed over to my cousin’s son’s apartment, across the street.

Weston’s dorm, left; Madison’s apartment building, right.

Very handy.

Sheryl, my cousin’s wife, was there, too, visiting Madison–we drove up together and this whole episode was her idea. She is a rabid WVU football fan. I am a rabid fan of cows and goats and apple-maple jam. We took the boys out to lunch on High Street, a couple blocks away.

Then Sheryl, Morgan, and I, and another friend, went to the football game. (The STUDENTS didn’t want to go!)

WVU slaughtered Bowling Green, so it wasn’t a very exciting game.

In fact, I thought continuing to play the game after the first quarter was kinda mean.

It rained the entire time and we were soaking wet down to the bone despite rain gear, and when I got home, the power was out here AGAIN! I had to find dry clothes by candelight, but by then, I’d been sitting in soaking wet clothes for more than six hours. It was the longest day ever.

The End!

With so many runners in our family, I’ve seen those shoes. They’re supposed to replicate being barefoot while protecting your feet. Supposedly they’re healthier for you (not sure if that’s really true, but that’s how they’re advertised). Lots of pretty, eye-catching colors, but they do look bizarre, don’t they?

Apple-maple jam? Yum! Even the sound of it brings to mind visions of autumn and beautiful colors (and tastes, of course).

Hope you’re dried out, warmed up and eating toast with apple-maple jam. But I need to know…What’s the round thing on Weston’s desk?

So, no hospital corners, huh? Looks like a pretty typical room to me. One of the men I work with is an avid runner and he actually wears those shoes to work!! In gray and lime green, yet!! I am always surprised when I get a glimpse of his feet….

The big question: How is Weston doing? Does he like college likfe any better?

My husband has vibrams just like those and he loves them. Glad you finally got dry clothes.

I KNEW that bone chilling, feet numbing cold I felt watching the game had to be more than just the power of suggestion. THey were sympathy pains for you!

I wonder how he likes those shoes with toes? I have seen them but wondered just how comfy they are. The town is a cute quaint place from what I see in your pictures. :happyflower:

My youngest daughter wears Vibrams! Swears by them, has tried to get me into them, but I’m afraid of getting my toes stepped on!

Funny that the “students” didn’t want to go to the game while the family did. go figure ; ))

When you buy your ticket, you get no guarantee of the weather. I have to give a BIG  & :snuggle: to Suzanne, Morgan and out friend who stuck it out at the game with me. I LUV my Mountaineer football!!! My son, Madison, has never been much of a sports fan, so I knew he wouldn’t go to the game with me. I was surprised that Weston didn’t want to go but I guess it is more fun to play football than to watch it. We had a good day with lots of laughs despite the weather. I, of course, will go back to football games but I think Suzanne will just go along for the ride and visiting. My friend and I plan to go back for a basketball game this winter. Maybe I can drag Suzanne along for the ride then, too. GO MOUNTAINEERS!
