This photo (which will be appearing soon as part of another post) is currently my favorite picture of me. And not because of the me, but because of the way Poky is looking at me. Like she loves me. Donkeys are more affectionate than most, or any, other farm animals. Donkeys are very satisfying.
Today is my birthday, so I’m taking the day off posting. I’m baking myself my favorite super spice cake (see the recipe here). All the years I was growing up, whenever my mother asked me what cake I wanted for my birthday, it was always spice cake. I love spice cake. With cream cheese frosting, of course!
Already, for my birthday, I have been given a bunch of two-year-old asparagus plants (yay!) and a cherry tree (double yay!). And always, every day, I’m given the gift of you. Thank you for being here. I’ll be back to regular posting tomorrow.

I met a woman this weekend while shopping in Greensboro. As it turns out, she was from Clay County WV but has lived in Florida for the last couple of decades. I told her about your great blog.

Enjoy your cake. Spice cake was always my favorite also. I had it in a fancy restaurant once with pink fondant frosting. I thought “EEEwww” when I saw it, but it wasn’t bad when I tasted it although I’d still opt for cream cheese frosting if given my ‘druthers’.
Cherry trees and asparagus are great gifts but nothing can top last year’s. BP has no equal (unless it’s her daughter).

I think trees are wonderful birthday gifts .
When I was a child in West Virginia ,
we had a Cherry tree in the back yard .
The birds always beat us to the cherries ,
but the cherry blossoms were enchanting .
