Finding My Boot

Eugene is here today fixing the creek crossing in the sheep field and working in the upper pasture for the cows. He crafted this handy swinging blockade for the crossing. Hopefully the sheep won’t figure it out. If they do, further measures will have to be taken.

It’s SO nice to have him here to help me get everything set up properly.

Meanwhile, when I went down to inspect the finished product, I spied this.

I have been looking for this boot for days!! I’ve asked everyone who has been here to keep an eye out for my boot. I don’t know if it was always right there, or got moved from wherever it was hiding, but I was so excited to find it. I actually keep two pairs of these rubber chore boots–because they are so vital to operations. Chloe is a shoe/boot stealer. I was getting nervous that I only had a pair and a half. I was expecting her to take off with the same boot from the other pair any time now, leaving me with two left boots.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve taken off my sandals while sitting on the porch, and after not paying attention for a second, looked down to discover one sandal missing. Then I’m hopping around the house in one sandal looking for my other one.

And yelling, CHLOE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Back in the goat yard where she belongs and where she can’t steal any of my shoes.)

What an elegant solution to the problem of keeping the fence from gathering too much drift and becoming a damn, vs maintaining its purpose of keeping the animals on the proper side of the fence. Smart, Smart, Smart!!!!! That man is a farmalogical genius!

LOL! Hopefully Chloe can figur out left from right so you will always have a ‘pair’! Muck will cover any pattern change!

My 80 year old neighbor said he wished he’d been born and reared on a farm, because farm boys know how to do everything.

Reminds me of my dog who would steal my bras and leave them in the yard.

Who, Chloe? Naw…. look at that face…. it wasn’t her…. it was CLOVER.

    Place is looking good, Suzanne!

If the sheep were to figure out the creek pass, could you just drive a couple of stakes into the creek to stop them from shoving it open?
I love seeing all the beautiful green of your farm in spring. I’m in a very arid climate and we’re in great need of rain. Spring has “sprung”, but it’s not green.

It’s been nice to read about all the good things that have been going on with you this week.

:woof: Glad you found the missing boot! Now Chloe can take it and not leave you shoeless….

Hey, she’s a puppy. Relocating shoes is part of her job description and she would be run out of town on a rail if she didn’t live up to it.

Things are looking good on Sassafras Farm.

I’ve got to agree with MousE, no one that cute could ever do anything wrong. I blame the goats….but the again, I blame our goats for everything. 😆

Ha, reminds me of my own dog Max. He LOVES to steal my shoes. He will haul them out through the doggy door. Of course it becomes a game if he has one and i want him to give it up. And people would wonder…why i put my shoes UP, like on a shelf…

I really like the way things are coming together. Eugene is wonderful to have. It took me about 3 or 4 years to learn what I now know about fencing etc. Is the gate in the creek made in such a way that you will have to watch that logs etc don’t jam open the new gate? We have a BIG CREEK we will have to put something in and I guess we will have to put a gate like that one of sorts into our creek.
I thought maybe Chloe had taken the boot, most puppies will steal footwear of some sort. She is sure cute. Maybe she needs cookies instead.

I once had a dog who would go up the hill & steal the neighbor’s shoes. Lots of them. Not sure they ever learned to not leave them out.

:happyflower: Dear sweet Chloe, I would be more than happy to sent a box of shoes that I dont wear for Chloe if that would keep her not penned up. 😀

I have a dog that likes to take one shoe off the back porch and leave it in the field.
