All the babies are doing well. I decided to name Nutmeg’s white one Bunny, by the way. I keep thinking she looks like a rabbit.

In other news, I’ve been quiet here because I’m limiting my computer time. I’ve always had a touchy sciatic nerve. It used to bother me a lot when I lived at Stringtown Rising. I often over-did there. I’ve been really well-behaved at Sassafras Farm. Things are well set up and I don’t let myself lift too much–or need to. I got a little carried away with sap buckets…… So I had to back off and put myself on a little bed rest. And go back to behaving. In other words, I don’t feel so good right now, which is interfering with syrup-making, dating, and sitting at the computer to write posts. (NOT a happy camper here!) I’ll be back when I feel better.

    I am right there with you. I been suffering with it since last May when I fell. I tried acupuncture and been going to physical therapy, I also had a injection done. I think the therapy helps but when I do house cleaning an all the bending over it gets very aggravated again. Maybe that’s what is going on with you. You aggravate it doing the chores. I was given lots of exercise stretches to do and they been doing Ultrasound on me. I am having foot surgery tomorrow so we are hoping with me not house cleaning for 2 months things will heal. Mine is right at the top of the hamstring and the pelvic bone meet and also where the sciatica nerve starts. Mine is such a killer to sit and ride in a car. Good luck with your Suzanne.

    I know this sounds crazy, but once you get that nerve under control (no pain) get then to a Pilates class – or get some good videos. Yoga along with Pilates is icing on that cake.

    Once you get the “core” strong – that sciatic never will no longer bother you.

    I know, I was where you are now. Strong belly, strong back. Really.

    its not really the sciatic nerve. Its yout L4-L5 vertebrae.
    Just had 1200 bucks of xrays to determine that. a good chiro will do wonders… I feel your pain’

    Being a massage therapist I highly recommend getting one and then when you feel better, start with the Pilates…a strong front equals a strong back… :sheepjump:

    My mother (79 years old) has had sciatica for most of her adult life. I know how much it sucks. Two weeks ago she fell off her 16 hand horse. Sciatica is completely gone. (her doctor does not recommend this as therapy to anyone else)Take care and get well. We will all be here when you are ready to sit in that chair again :sun:

    Sorry to hear of your physical troubles. its no fun getting older! A lot of sitting can aggravate it as well. We took a 4 hr.trip for vacation. When I left home I was fine. By the time I got to the hotel my sciatic nerve was just jumping and I struggled with pain everyday on vacation. When I got home I went online and a lot of people talked about yoga stretches for that. I had been doing yoga but had gotten away from it. After several weeks of doing yoga stretches,the sciatica was gone. It was mostly working through the pain, doing leg lifts while sitting. But not sitting too long, 15,20 min. at a time. And keeping my affected leg straight while sleeping. Don’t know if this will help you but it really helped me.

    Yep, I’ll join the chorus of fellow sufferers. Chiro does work as does rest, warm/cold compresses, anti-inflammatories and stretches. In fact the best thing my Chiro did for me was show me how to properly stretch and do the exercises that isolated the particular places that needed work.

    I’m feeling better now than I have in years. Just sayin’

    My sciatica went away after the Chiro aligned my spine…l4-l5 scrunched up and pinching a nerveindeed! It stays away with yoga, stretching and core strengthening which you have already heard above…..Be well Suzanne.

    Mine is troubling me, too. Here’s what to do. Lie on the floor. On the side that is bothering you, bend your knee and pull the knee up towards your face as far as you can. Hold for 60 seconds. Now, in the same position, shift the knee/leg that you are holding slightly over to the other side of your body and hold for 60 seconds, pulling slightly. This opens up the space and should provide pain relief. My doctor/hubby always does this with me.

    There is an additional “pull” sitting in a chair. Let’s pretend that your pain is on the left side. Sit in a straight chair and cross the left leg over the knee of the other leg. Left ankle is touching just above right knee. Now, take your hands and push down on the left knee and hold about 30 seconds. This opens up the sciatic space and provides relief.

    These two exercises help me along with taking some naproxen (over the counter) for a few days. I am always good as new fairly quickly. I do the exercises several times each day (about 3).

    Ouch! Sciatica can be amazingly painful. My DH thought I was being kind of wimp about it, until he got it once; he said it was more painful than kidney stones. Take care of yourself and let it heal; don’t push it. You have my sympathy.

    I’ve used the first stretch that Bonnie described and found brought some temporary relief. And when that sciatic nerve plays up, any relief is welcome!
