jillmeMe, left, with Jill, right. This photo is from several years ago when Jill and I used to go to Romance Writers of America conferences, room together, laugh, talk, critique each other’s work, stalk Nora Roberts, and drink. Okay, those last two MIGHT JUST BE ME. Jill has a new book out, and I invited her here to tell you about it and she has a giveaway for you, too!

Hey there! I’ve known Suzanne for … well, since the Ice Age actually. She’s one of the warmest, funniest people I know, and generous too. Thanks for having me here today, Suzanne, to talk about my latest book, ALWAYS ON MY MIND.

The first time I had a crush on a firefighter, I was eight years old. Our neighbor’s shed had caught fire, and the firefighters raced up our street and beat out that fire in two minutes flat. One of the firefighters gently pushed me back out of harm’s way, and that was it. I was in love.

Cut forward a few (ahem) years, and I’m still infatuated with firefighters. I write them as heroes in my books whenever I can get away with it, and I got away with it in ALWAYS ON MY MIND. Jack Harper has a lot on his plate, running Lucky Harbor’s fire station. But then his childhood best friend Leah Sullivan comes back to Lucky Harbor and tells a little fib that makes the whole town think she and Jack are a item. Will they just fake it or make it?

Excerpt from ALWAYS ON MY MIND:

“Okay, Mr. Rules, Mr. Gotta Be In Charge…we’re going to have to renegotiate some things.”

“Such as?”

“That,” Leah said, and pointed to the bed. “What the hell are we going to do about that?”

“If you’re referring to the amazing orgasms, then I vote for more as soon as possible.”

“At least that part isn’t pretend,” she said.

Jack frowned at her. “What does that mean?”

“Look, forget it. But we need to remember your first rule: this isn’t real and there are no hurt feelings.” She whirled away and began digging through her purse for her keys. “When people are bitching that I don’t have any fresh bread or donuts available today at the bakery, I’m going to blame you.”

“Sure,” he said, a little distracted by her reiterating his own rule. Which was ridiculous of him. “My reputation could use the boost.”

She rolled her eyes, headed to the door, then stopped, sighed, and came back to him. “You’re still naked.”

“Yeah,” he said. “Just in case you want to give me any more birthday presents…”

The book is on the shelves at Target, Walmart, Barnes And Noble, Independent bookstores, and also available wherever ebooks are sold, like Nook, Kindle… I’m giving away a copy of one of my earlier books today, and all you have to do is tell me … do you read romance? An easy one, right?

AOMM cover smallYou can find me at www.facebook.com/blog (in fact, if you take a pic holding my book and post it to my page, you’ll be entered in another giveaway, and let’s face it, you can never be entered in enough giveaways. You can also find me at my daily blog where I post about being a city girl stuck in the mountains. Lots of I Love Lucy adventures! www.jillshalvis.com/blog

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
