He Wasn’t Born That Way

Dec

Look at that.

He wasn’t born with that.

Or THAT.

Remember when he surprised me in Great Lakes with the first one?

Now he has THREE OF THEM.

Ross is here! And he looks like a sailor and EVERYTHING.

He’s inked like one. If he starts cussin’ like one… πŸ™‚

Glad he’s home and well and definitely growing into a man! πŸ™‚

  2. Mike says:

Most everyone has tattoos these days. I see young people covered with them every day. I have read that military is cracking down on those who have tattoos that can be seen. That is when I got my first one – when I was in the Navy back in the mid 1980s.

  3. Melissa Marsh says:

Yay! So glad all your kids are home for Christmas!!! :snoopy:

  4. Laney says:

He looks so handsome, tattoos and all πŸ™‚
Enjoy your Christmas with your family. Looks like you have the makings of a wonderful holiday season!!

  5. northcountrygirl says:

What a handsome sailor you have!!! My son has a tattoo just like the one on Ross’ upper arm. Same place, too. Ross, I am so proud of you and I want to thank you for choosing to serve your country. It says a lot about who you are and the values you stand for! Keep up the good work and God bless!

  6. JOJO says:

    :woof:
I am not a fan of tatoos, but it seems to be the thing to do, look at all of the NFL stars, etc thank goodness it is not Morgan! I dont know, it is just tatoos on a woman that I cant get used to. They say it is a form of art, I prefer my art hanging in the wall at home, but that again is personal thing.
My dearest friend that lived in England was always upset when her youngest Son always got a tatoo on his birthday, but the last one–she almost fainted–it was in his back, shoulder to shoulder, it said MADE IN ENGLAND
Boys will always turn into men, and I guess this is part of the transition now days. Every generation has it’s “thing”. It could be worse.——I guess. You raised him right– not to worry, Mom.

  7. tractor57 says:

Please thank Ross for his service! And have a truly blessed holiday season.

  12. Estella says:

  13. Miss Becky says:

I’ve heard once you get a tattoo they are addictive. Don’t be surprised if he comes home with more than the three he has! My son has them all over his upper body. I don’t like them, but they’re a part of him now.

Ross looks wonderful. I’m sure you were so happy to see him, however he arrived. Merry Christmas to you and your lovely children….oh and 52, too!

  18. Carmen C. says:

  19. Patsy Melton says:

My father had those birds on his chest, exactly same spot. He was in the Navy during WWII. What is the significance of them? I never found out. My Dad passed on in 1987.

  20. Rebecca Dieffenbach says:

AWESOME!! THANK YOU FOR SERVING! I am a USMC veteran and always always tell young people thank you for serving. tattoos are a personal decision, just like getting your ears pierced, what kind of clothes you wear. If someone else doesnt like, bugger off, it was his decision, you dont get tats for other people, you get them for yourself. I know, I have my back covered, right thigh and right ankle. I will have more before I am the other side of the daisies. Congratulations on having your family home for the holidays!
    Rebecca

I hope you all have a VERY Merry Christmas and have a wonderful time together!

  47. Cinderbama says:

I’m still laughing over the “made in England” remark! My son enlisted in the Navy this summer and is slated to go to Great Lakes in March. He already has his first tat on his back. I actually did the research and then designed the thing for him, took him to the place, and then helped him with the “maintenance” of it until it was set. He was gonna get it anyway so I figured I had best get involved. Somebody else will have to help him with the next one! Merry Christmas Suzanne. I know you are proud of all your kids.

  48. Carolyn D. Tx Aggie mom says:

:sun: He does indeed look like a sailor. I’ve known many of them, been married to one of them for 24 years. They are the most handsome of men. What JOY to have him home. May YOU ALL have the merriest Christmas ever. I know your mom is watching from heaven, happy that all of you are together. :snuggle: Hug all of them an extra second or two, for future Christmases. Sailors don’t always get to be home so put some hugs in the bank for those times. Happy, happy, joy, joy!

  49. justdeborah2002 says:

Merry Christmas, happy you have all of your people home with you.
And the tattoos look good, well done and appropriate.

ps I have 12 myself, 19 year old daughter has 2…they really are addictive

  51. Marianne G says:

Welcome home Ross! I bet Mama Hen is happy all her chicks are home for the holidays!

  52. Lanette says:

Glad he got home! Great Lakes is in for a total of about 12″ of snow in the next week between the storms that are heading our way. It’s my last real winter for awhile, so I need to enjoy it! If he ever gets a hankering for homebaked cookies let me know. I can send them in with hubby and Ross can pick them up in Bldg 1A!

  53. Cyndy Buiniskis says:

Tats definitely seem to be a rite of passage for military kids….mine has several, and she’s a girl! :bugeyed: I figure if they’re old and mature enough to be serving their country, they can make that choice too! Agree with others that Ross has gone from a cute boy to a handsome young man! I’m sure this will be a very special Christmas for all of you, albeit a bittersweet one at times when missing your Mom. Enjoy your time together!

  54. CATRAY44 says:

So glad your babies are home with you! The same thing happened with my cousin – he left a boy and came back a tatooed man. I expected the tats, him becoming a man has caught me off guard. Merry Christmas, Stringtown Rising!!!!

  59. Yendor Nella says:

Little late to post on this but 21 years USN Submarine service 7 different subs 2 boomers, 4 fast attacks, 1 diesel boat. Hope he enjoys his time in, I did. By the way I also have 3 tattoos. LOve your writing, I live in a 110 year old place that started life as a cow shed, then a bar and turned into a house in 1955. It is haunted by a ghost cat, that jumps up on the bed some nights and is also seen flitting around corners.
