I Have a Tree! I Have a Tree!

Dec
10

I have a tree! (Did I say that??) It’ll go up this weekend, so I’ll be decorating. I have my cranberries and dried oranges. Need to pop the popcorn! I make garlands from popcorn, cranberries, and dried oranges. I need more twig stars. Time to bake the gingerbread men! So much to do! So much fun!

This is a store-bought tree, not cut down ourselves. I haven’t been out this week (this tree was brought to me) and I don’t have two big boys here this week to do the work, either. And I think we took the last good Christmas trees off my cousin’s farm in the last few years. It’s bare pickings over there and we don’t have any pines on our farm except one huge one. This isn’t really pine country, so “free” Christmas trees are hard to come by here. I miss cutting down our own tree. (See Two Boys and a Tree for my favorite cutting-down-a-tree story.)

But. I have a tree! I have a tree!

You are just cute! So infectious is your spirit! I just want to grab an axe and go outside and chop something down to drag into the house… :)

We will cut our tree this week-end with the grandkids. We have plenty of cedar trees just the right size on our farm. Since we are remodeling the farmhouse and everything is a mess, we plan to put the tree on the porch and decorate it for the birds. Merry Christmas!

How Exciting!!! And it looks like a BIG one & is it long needle too…maybe a Concolor? We had one of those 2 years ago & it was the best tree ever…still had it’s needles 6 months later.
I put the bow saw in my car today in case I spot a ‘free tree’ some place in my travels over the next few days…what I want is a gappy somewhat imperfect roadside pine, reminiscent of those in the pictures of my youth…my popcorn is all strung & waiting.
I look forward to seeing your tree all decked out…I know it’ll be beautiful!

Cool! We bought our frazier fir the Sunday after Thanksgiving…my very favorite Christmas tree. What type of tree is yours? It looks like a cedar or something similar. It’s beautiful and I can’t wait to see your photos of it decorated!

P.S. We’re supposed to get more snow this weekend…is your car at the bottom of your driveway yet?

We got a white fir this year and it smells SO GOOD! We usually go find a noble fir, but decided not to go that high in the snow this year. Now, if I can just find a way to stop the dog from eating the dried fruit off the tree we’ll be doing good ;)

Oh, thank you for sharing your enthusiasm! It’s catching! Me, too, me, too, I have a tree! I always get a fir; they smell like Christmas to me. It’s sitting outside in a bucket having a long drink of water. I hope to start decorating it this weekend…at least get the lights on. But before I do, I need to finish knitting a shawl I’m making for a friend… The Christmas deadline is looming.

Yay! Not only store bought- but porch brought!
That is the VERY best kind of tree when your boys aren’t there to help!

Now I have tree envy. Can’t have a live tree inside unless I’m willing to give up breathing. I do consider it each year, but generally, I pass. Enjoy!

You should go out the Keaton’s Tree Farm one year. It’s in Amma, not that far away from you. I get mine there every year. I love getting a real tree. Of course the boys and husband complain because I make them walk all over the hill and then pick the first one I saw that was 20 feet from the car :)

It will be neat to see what it looks like after you’re thru with it.

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
