I Washed My Milk Hoses for This?

Today’s milking–barely enough to get the bottom of the pot wet. So much for my idea that Glory Bee might be weaning herself. Maybe she was just playing with me. Or maybe she felt bad for breaking out of the meadow bottom field and eating leaves off the trees in the orchard. She gave me some extra milk yesterday to make up to me.

There’s no making up to me, Glory Bee! I want my milk back! And I’m gonna get it back! Look what I just ordered–a calf weaner! Who knew such a thing existed. (Mrs. Fuzz, who told me about it and highly recommends it.)

TAKE THAT, missy!

Learn something new everyday Can’t wait to see Glory Bee’s face. Way to go!

  2. Window On The Prairie says:

YAY!!! BP so needs the rest. :cowsleep:

  3. Jan Hodges says:

She looks almost as big as BP. Hope it works.

  4. Hlhohnholz says:

She isn’t gonna know what hit her! Having to eat GRASS like a real cow. Hmph!!

  5. CATRAY44 says:

Hmmm. I wonder which high tree you will find that hanging from? Ahahhaa! (I hope it works!)

  6. BuckeyeGirl says:

Cute CATRAY! I just hope that bright yellow shows up in the tree branches!

Just so you all know, big dairy farms have full grown cows that nurse off of each other, so this sort of thing is invaluable. In a perfect world, cows would read the instructions and get weaned right on schedule, but the silly things just don’t want to settle down to their lessons!

This looks like a very humane style device, I’ve seen some wicked ones! I bet she gets the message very quickly. Usually the ‘problem kids’ are that way because they’re just too smart for their own good.

Glory Bee, I hope you get the message quick!

  7. WholeStrides says:

Wow…. That is something! Who knew such a thing existed? I hope it works!

  8. twiggityNDgoats says:

Hee Hee! That empty pail is a SAD sight. Hope your calf weaner comes soon. Glory Bee will rue the day she steals YOUR milk

  9. lattelady says:

Well, it is about time. She is way too big and too old to still be nursing. She is going to be so ticked off though. Have fun trying to attach it to her. Might be a bit of a challenge. I have been having a ball reading of the trials and tribulations of your efforts.
    Hope her mama is pregnant.

  10. GA_in_GA says:

Wow! I’ve never seen a cow give someone stinkeye before!

  11. Wildflower_VA says:

I sure hope you have the video cameras rolling when you put that thing on her! :bugeyed: I think Glory Bee, AKA Bad Baby, will not be a happy girl! She’s so pretty I can see me letting her get away with a lot! Maybe not ALL my milk.

I hope this works, because it is stressful for both mama and baby to have to be separated, it seems like. Thanks for sharing your milk cows with those of us who wish we could have them.

  12. TwistedStitcher says:

She is going to be soooo mad at you! I do hope you video your putting that on her. This could be the end of her cooperating with the leading and being nice to you all together.

  13. West Virginia Bound Ladies says:

Well I quess GB aka Bad Baby is going to find out that she is NOT getting anymore of ALPHA-MAMAs milk!!!Please take a video my daughter and I just love watching them and reading your daily farm, it usually ends up with tears running down our faces! :moo:

  14. Pete says:

It is time. She will learn, and if she is good, she will only have to wear it one time… :snoopy:

You are going to explain to her that it’s all up to her how long and how often she wears it, right? Uh-huh. :smilerabbit:

  15. whaledancer says:

That looks like just what GB needs. I wonder how long it will take her to figure out a way to get rid of it, LOL? She’s too smart for your own good.

  16. sophanne says:

What cracks me up the most is that when I clicked the link to see what a calf weaned looked like I read that it had a “wing-nut adjustment.” who are they calling a wing nut?

  17. Sarah K says:

I clicked the link to see what it looked like, and the product name cracked me up. Talk about an appropriate name. hehe!

  18. Flowerpower says:

Poor Glory Bee! Well such is life and she must learn like everybody else how to conduct yourself. She is far too big and too old to be milking her mama. Bad baby syndrome! :happyflower:

  19. DarleneS says:

It doesn’t look as hurtful as the other things on that page. But will it hurt GB when she bites down? Don’t want the baby scared of her mother do we? She will be weaned before you know it. I hope.

  20. Jersey Lady says:

I have wanted to suggest a calf weaner for a long time but was afraid to say anything for fear folks would say I was mean.Sometime you gotta do what you gotta do.

  21. holstein woman says:

If this doesn’t work I’ll make a udder cover (bag) for BP to wear with her flower. :cowsleep:
I don’t think if I were GB I would like that thing enough to STOP milking momma. :pirate:

  22. Valerie says:

Yep, a good idea. Suzanne HAS to have milk to make cheese and supply us with more recipes! :hungry: I was clicking around on that link, and saw that fetal pigs are sold. Does anyone know what they are used for? I can’t imagine.

  23. IowaCowgirl says:

    Valerie,
Fetal pigs are used for biology and zoology classes for dissection.

  24. BuckeyeGirl says:

That device is just a flap that interferes when she tries to get to BP’s udder, but when her head is down like to eat grass, hay, grain or drink water allows her to eat and drink normally. She doesn’t bite it or anything, it just flops the wrong way when she tries to nurse. She won’t like it in her nose, but it’s not going to jab her or poke her either.

  25. Jersey Lady says:

Holstein Woman mentioned an udder bag. NASCO sells udder supports-kind of like a bra for cows.
