Morgan, with the only goat she ever loved. (Notice she’s lost one eye again!)

Update on Maia–she is doing great. She’s huge. Makes me wonder if I should feed all goat babies on a bottle because she’s grown so big, so fast, on the bottle! She follows me around the goat yard like I’m her mommy, and does the same with Morgan. She is so cute. And huge. Did I mention huge? I’m weaning her now–she’s two and a half months old. I’m still giving her a couple bottles a day, but they are diluted. Eventually I’ll get her down to just a bottle of water. And when I can bear to give up the cuteness, I’ll take that away, too. Though she won’t like it. And she will always think I’m her mama.

I can live with that.

That willingness to be hanled and general friendliness is why a lot of people bottle feed calves and kids. She’ll always be more willing to come along and be at least a little more cooperative. Still, it’s a lot of trouble and takes a lot of time, as is certainly no news to YOU! Same thing for using an incubator to hatch eggs instead of having a hen brood them. Eggs hatched by a hen usually means flighty nervous chicks, not willing to come near or be handled easily. :cowsleep:

How cute. Both Morgan and Maia 🙂
I can’t tell you how much I enjoy reading you site. Brings back so many happy memories. Keep it up.

I think the best thing about farming is the lives you save loving the animals. How sweet for you both to be so loved. I remember the joy I got when I raised calves.

I love bottle babies for several reasons. They are more willing to be handled and be friendly and you know exactly how much they are getting. I have had seven bottle kids (Nigerians and mini LaManchas)so far this year with more on the way in May.

Wow! You’re not kidding (pun!) – she’s HUGE! What are you putting in that bottle – Miracle Grow? So cute!

I’m glad Maia has done so well.

Morgan, please don’t hide half of your face, you’re beautiful!

Morgan has issues with showing her face, as have you with your ears.
Cute picture of a beautiful young girl and a really cute baby goat (kid).
Love your stories. I grew up in the country and now live in the middle of a city. As close to the country as now ever want to be. However, we do get the occasional coyote, deer and raccoon. Yes,in the middle of a small city of 250,000. Grouse too (but I put feed out for them.).
