Cows are cows. Goats are goats. Donkeys are donkeys. Sheep are sheep. Well….. Unless you count Annabelle.

It’s amazing to watch how animals stick with their own kind. That’s why people are always saying to not get just one. Many types of animals do better, live better, and are healthier if they have at least one of their own kind to associate with. However, there are interactions between them, and they are fascinating, as if they are dealing with an alien species.

Glory Bee has been the subject of some staring in the goat yard, then she was mostly dismissed. Slowly, the other animals are starting to approach her and check her out….and make friends.

That is sweet! I have to say Suzanne, I was getting very worried for you with that little she-devil GB! I hope this solution, although temporary, will help tame the beast….how can something so cute be such a problem?! I’m also glad to hear the check cleared – YAY! Well deserved!! I am so glad that you are letting her be with her mom again, it was very sad to know that at such a young age she was being forced away. You will get better results from a content cow then an angry cow.

PS does she drink to much from mom that she can’t nurse more often?

Eve, she is put deliberately with BP now to nurse at night, and other than that, she can nurse during the day whenever BP chooses to go to her and let her. (Already at two months, she doesn’t require as much milk as she did when she was first born, and she is provided hay and calf starter and water, also. She has plenty of opportunity now to get as much as she needs from BP. She DOES still need milk, which is what the problem was because she wouldn’t take milk from me.)

Michelle, I just got into donkeys because they are so cute. They are VERY people-friendly animals. I love my donkeys. Look into mini-donks–that’s what I have. I’m all for the smaller size in most anything.

Glory Bee is well on her way to becoming a part of the farm. Way to go. It nice that BP can choose when she wants to feed GB. That way if GB get too ruff on her utter BP can just walk away. Good job.

You’re right about animals being happier with one of their own kind. Rabbits do best as bonded pairs – I didn’t know that until I started keeping house rabbits as pets. True, they end up not paying as much attention to the pesky human if they have a same-kind friend, but they’re happier.

GB is a cutie. She will tame down nicely for you as long as you keep working with her many times each day. Glad you have her close to the house so the half drunk hunters don’t confuse her pretty brown coat for a deer.

I can’t believe missed this picture the first time around. I’m glad you have that “More posts you might enjoy feature.” GB is so little in this picture. And it was less than 6 months ago.
