My Favorite Winter Look | Chickens in the Road

I love Winter’s style when she drapes the tree branches in this heavy layer of frosty snow…. But it’s the most dangerous snow of all when it comes to the risk of power outage. In the past several days, we’ve had rain on top of snow on top of ice, and this combination makes branches lumber under the weight. And sometimes break. West Virginia could be called The Land of a Billion Trees, and so power and phone outages are common at this time of year. I’ll post as much as I can, but if I don’t keep up my usual schedule, my power is probably out…. (Just writing my excuse note before the dog eats my homework. My power has been flickering!)

Break out your knitting/crocheting projects! Or if you have gas, bake up some treats!

We’re the only state to not have snowfall this year, or so says the fiance (we’re in FL). Our days are around 70°F. I’ll send you some warm thoughts.

I wish we were in a winter wonderland, but maybe if we were I would be wishing for our warmth lol. You guys keep warm and cozy! (I’ll happily trade you some winter cold for our sweltering summers)

Here in Western KY we had the same beautiful scene Wednesday morning. We were fortunate to only loose power for minutes instead of days like we had in the ice storm of 2009. Our trees were beautiful for two days until the temperature went up and it started to “Rain” snow from the trees. It would come down in big pieces, hit the windshield of the vehicle as we were driving and we would react by putting our head out of the way. It was actually funny.

At first I thought that was one of my photos I just took and posted on my facebook page. lol. Here in PA our trees are draped in snow as well. The one road I go down I wish there was a place to pull over because the trees go over both sides of the roads and its like a fairy land there. We got snow again last night. So far no plow is out to clean off the road. So we have no way of knowing how bad the roads are past ours. Good excuse to stay in for the day. lol.

I thought Oregon was the only state to have freezing rain this winter. Sorry everyone, ours is over thank God for that!

I once babysat for a teacher and the first time he wrote me a check my dog ate it. Seriously had to go to the teacher and ask for another one cause my dog ate it…and then he ate that one too. I don’t think I got paid that first time, and my dog has a wicked sense of humor because that’s the only time he ever did something like that.

I love that look too. We had that kind of snow here in northeast Kansas back in December. Very pretty. Hope your power holds out. Stay warm!

I lived where the power went off when it rained or even was a bit windy. Know what that’s like. Stay safe, stay warm, and don’t worry about CITR. We have enough to keep us busy here for years!!

Ice storms are so beautiful. I still remember the one we had in the late ’60′s, 1968 or 1969. I don’t exactly remember the date, but I remember walking under the arches made by ice covered branches bending down, the total stillness and the pure sparkling magic. Plus, if the branches should break, think of all the kindling you could collect. A good thing, as long as you aren’t standing under the future kindling when it falls.

Sure hope you don’t lose power! My husband and I just returned home from a trip to Detroit. The snow was beautiful in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Maryland!

I think the sound the branches make when the wind blows is eerie. They clank together, crack, pop, rustle. We get lots of icy branches here in the Midwest. They try to clear back the branches from the lines each summer but its a neverending battle against the growing trees. Beautiful but deadly ice.
