New Boots

Old boots.

I actually love these old chore boots, despite how they look. They look awful. They look like they’ve been “rode hard and put up wet” and that’s kinda the best thing about them. I think I stole them from the cellar at the old farmhouse, but I don’t remember for sure. Actually, I think Morgan stole them and then I stole them from her. They’re big, and one of the things I like about them is that I can just stick my feet in and pull my feet out. It’s handy because they’re gross and I don’t want to touch them. It’s also a danger when the boot-sucking mud tries to rip them off my feet, which HAS HAPPENED, so I have to be careful.

What I don’t like about them is after three years of constant abuse on the farm, they have worn holes around the soles (and other places). This means when I’m in standing water or soupy mud, it gets into the boots. Every time I go out and come back, I have to change my socks.

I finally got tired of changing my socks.

They’re as much like my old boots as I could find.

They’re high, so I can tuck my jeans in, and big, so I can stick my feet in and out without having to touch them. They’re okay, but I feel like I don’t know them yet. They’re all not ripped up and everything. And they’re too clean.

I’ll fix that.

Yup. Usually takes me about a week to accidentally poke a hole in the boot with a pitchfork. I have several sets of barn boots now, each with a small hole somewhere in the toe. Luckily, I have not yet managed to puncture the foot inside the boot.

Suzanne, I finally splurged and bought a pair of Muck Boots. If they last really good they will be a bargain because they are the most comfortable boot I have ever had on. Mine are just about 12 inches tall and are insulated but are supposed to be comfortable up to 85°.

I still have a pair of old boots from dairying that were knee boots, but I cut the tops off to use in the garden in the summer…they are not insulated.

A girl has to have chore boots!

Yeah, I don’t think being too clean is gonna be a problem for long!

I’m not ready to get ride of my old boots; I water seal them every year. They look horrible, but they fit and I can’t part with them. If I know I’ll be in sstanding water, I put plastic bags on my feet.
I am a real class act! :happypuppy:

:woof: Gotta buy roll of duct tape Suzanne ! Clean & dry the boots….once dry…slap on the duct tape. LOL

Duct tape is good. So is Shoo Goo (I can vouch for its usefulness. We’ve used it on everything). Or both tape and Shoo Goo. Either way, you’ll have an extra pair of boots to rely on.

New boots = dry feet = happiness! :shimmy:
Mine always crack at the heels because of how I stand on them when taking them off, I think. I’ve been tiptoeing across the goat yard lately to avoid a gush of mud in the back. Guess I could try some duct tape like was already mentioned.

Why just fill those boots with dirt…take’em down by the fence row..in the sun…and plant more of those little hen and chickens in them…especially since they already have drainage holes…

 New boots are much easier to break in than a new bra!!!

I love the new boots!, I call mine the POO shoes! they never meet the inside of the house, they have to be easy on and easy off, nothing like sinking in the mud and chicken poo! :snoopy:

They’re…nice. But when I saw the headline I was hoping you’d finally gotten the green ones with the daisys on them. :purpleflower: I’ve been coveting those ever since you posted their picture, and I don’t even have any mud to slog through.

You breaking in those boots is kinda like that saying about the weather: “Wait a minute…”

  13. Nancy Stickler says:

I bet you got yhem at Walmart! They’re just like mine. I also buy mens, two sizes big, to accomodate heavy socks and pant legs!

  14. Yvonne says:

Suzanne, save the cute boots for drier weather or they won’t be cute for long! (Unless you hose them off each time you wear them!) :happyflower:

  15. Ramona says:

I knew they wouldn’t be clean for long.
