Of Horns and Thorns

Now Eclipse is eating my roses.

He might need to get introduced to THE PIG!

About running a hot wire, we don’t have electric in the pond area right now. We’re trying to find out, and fix, where he’s getting out. Nothing like walking downstairs in the morning, opening the door, and THERE HE IS.

Still takes me aback every time. HELLO.

But! Today, it was just him, not Sailor. That’s progress. And we put that cage around the rose bush he was eating…….

They do make solar powered fencers… not sure how great they work, but it’s a possibility I suppose.

Me thinks you might regret bringing the boys up there! (At least that one!!!)

I can’t remember where the buck-n-duck pond is in relation to all the other areas, but here is what we did many years ago. We put in 2 or 3 extended (tall) poles to keep out of way of humans, farm equipment, and other animals and strung the insulators and fence overhead, then dropped it into the goat yard. Otherwise I think there are battery operated fencers (or solar powered too)– hope that helps — they can be escape artists when they want to be.

Naughty boy! Do you have any barbed wire around? A strand at the top and bottom of the fence should work. I know it’s icky stuff to use, but it is cheaper than electric.

Squirrels are eating our roses. Believe it or not. Started spraying them with Tabasco. We’ll see.

Maybe you could lace your rosebushes with cookies 😉

We have a solar powered electric fence to keep our pigs in. It works WONDERFULLY!!!! We had them in similar fencing to what your goats are in and once they reached a certain age….

It was a miserable 3 days waiting for the thing to charge, but once it did life was back to normal again….as much as life on a make shift farm can be!!

  7. cabynfevr says:

But I love you man! (or maaaaam) lol Electric never worked with our goats. They had singe marks down their backs…frustrating little buggars! Good thing they’re so cute.

  8. NancyL says:

But he IS a handsome goat! I wouldn’t mind seeing him outside my door! But, then, I’m in an apartment – no roses.

  9. Sheila Z says:

Battery operated work very well. Kind of looks like a car battery and will last for weeks.

i’d be curious to see what goes on while I wasn’t looking. Cabelas’ sells for about $140 a really good motion activated camera. You can play it back on your computer. This might take the guess work out of trying to fence everything. Plus how amusing would that be to watch!

  11. roosterrun says:

Just be glad he didn’t get into the berry bushes and grapes. You might have had to eat goat for supper! They are so cute with great personalities but can be soooo destructive fast. Eating machines.

  12. DB says:

I don’t have to deal with horns, but rather antlers….as in deer. And cottontails, as in rabbits. And bushy tails, as in squirrels. It’s a challenge to only plant flowers that none of them like to eat! (And sometimes the squirrels will just pull plants out of the ground….Maybe I plant on top of their stash of nuts!)

  13. Leaves of the fall says:

Isn’t it amazing how thorns don’t phase their mouths?

(Thanks to you folks behind the scenes, helping me with my password issues!!!!!! 😆 It worked! 🙂

  14. msmitoagain says:

The solar ones work good, we had one once before.

  15. montanasmama says:

That field fence you put up should hold those little goats. How are you stretching it? The wire must be stretched tight to work right. It’s a bear to stretch fence on these WV hills but it can be done. I have a great home made fence stretcher just made for field fence by the guys who fenced my place. I would be happy to dig it out and take some pictures, 52 should be able to make one easily.

  16. holstein woman says:

I’m sure glad he comes home and doesn’t roam. :sheep:

  17. Window On The Prairie says:

Bad Goats. Charge them with Felony Escape and Trespassing. No to mention Property Damage. :shimmy:
