Out of the Barn!

Nov
27

The goats, sheep, and Coco are OUT! They had been stalled (separately) in the barn for a week while they settled in and I had some minor modifications prepared (wire on the field gate to keep the sly devils from slipping between the bars on the gate).

I still have one working dog and one lazy dog, by the way.

Everyone was glad to see sun and green grass and room to run. I’ll have more details on the new goat yard soon, as well as tours of all the pastures, the barn, the cellar, the studio, and the house. (Starting with the first part of the house tour on Monday.) I have a lot to show you!

One more thing….I had asked about the crooked little hen but got to thinking DUH…was that red on those boards behind her? yes! so she must have been caught and moved too. Now I can stop worrying about that silly little chicken! :happyflower:

Well, Casper deserves a good rest after helping you move! Loved the pic of him carrying “something” in his mouth on the moving day photos.
The animals must LOVE all the space and green grass and flat pasture land.
    Looking forward to more pictures!
    Happy days ahead for you!

How is the hunter doing, anything yet? Has he seen deer yet?
All your babies look so content.

  15. Linda Goble says:

Casper was up all night keeping watch in the Barn. You just didn’t see him. He is all tuckered out poor dog. He deserves a cookie you know. I know probably no time to bake right now. Can’t wait till the grand tour tomorrow. :snoopy:

  16. rileysmom says:

I’m anxious to “see” your new farm, too!
It’s good to “hear” the happiness and excitement in your “voice” though I’ll bet you’ve been working on hard, getting settled in.

  17. brendaE says:

I can’t hardly wait. I’m dying to see the inside of the farm house and all the rest of the farm. It’s all so lovely.

Everyone is so HAPPY with your move, Mother Nature as well, look at the beautiful weather she is providing, it looks morne like Spring, I was wondering—–can chicken smile? πŸ˜‰

  22. whaledancer says:

Look at all that lovely sunshine, and NO MUD!

  23. Estella says:

Looks like everyone is adjusting well.

  24. BuckeyeGirl says:

Well, mud happens on a farm and I just can’t be convinced that there isn’t any mud waiting to show up at Sassafras Farm! It’s bound to have its share. No farmer can expect that there won’t be mud, or trouble either, though we do hope that most things will be much easier for Suzanne to deal with! This is a new chapter for her, and a wonderful one at that, but there are many wonderful things about Stringtown Rising Farm too and each chapter must be built upon the shoulders of the last one. :chicken:

  25. Patty says:

Wow! I’ve not checked my usual blogs for a couple weeks, and wow! Sassafras Farm looks AMAZING and the animals look so happy. I CANNOT WAIT for the house tour. I love old farmhouses and I always wish I could go inside them and look around when I pass one on an old country road. You are totally living the dream. So sorry it took hard times and heartache to get there, but Congrats on making yourself truly happy! :woof:

  26. jnet says:

It is a really beautiful place! I can’t wait to see it all. I would love to have all the animals and space you do. Looking forward to the baby donkey also. Wish I lived closer I’d be over to help out! :snuggle:

  27. tinamanley says:

Former English teacher here. He is not laying in the driveway, unless he is a chicken. He is lying in the driveway. Sorry!! That is my pet peeve. I love your new farm and am looking forward to seeing and reading more.

  28. yvonnem says:

I am so excited for you! :snoopy: I can’t wait to see the inside of the house and all of the other wonderful parts of your new farm. :snoopy:

  29. CATRAY44 says:

May God continue to bless Stringtown and bring the people to it that are meant to live there and take care of it next. God bless and Keep 52, too. I will miss that place and time, but look forward to the future stories that are waiting to happen at Sassafras Farm! I can hardly wait for the tour!

  30. laurie hamar says:

    Suzanne,
Although I don’t often comment I have been a regular reader of your blog for a year or so. I just wanted to tell you that I’m so proud of you. I’m sure that your recent journey has been difficult but it looks like you’ve made some hard decisions and your future looks soooo bright. I think that all things happen for a reason even if we don’t understand them at the time. I wish you the absolute best and many happy years in your new beautiful farm. Hugs to you.

  31. Cheryl LeMay says:

WOO HOO! They look content. It definitely looks like home now. The only animals I haven’t seen are your cats(I saw them during the move) and your pig (or did he make the move in the freezer)?

  32. willsahna says:
