Outage Eggs | Chickens in the Road

What’s up with the staff? Good weather, no eggs. Blizzard, no power for light in the chicken house–they’re laying eggs all over the place. Not that I’m complaining! We’ve been having some great outage breakfasts with fresh eggs right out of the chicken house. They’re laying in the nesting boxes and everything! They’re messing with me, aren’t they?

My Dad always put black pepper in the water for our chickens in the winter. He said it kept them warm and we always had eggs thru the winter. I raed somewhere they can’t digest raw potatoe skins, I put mine in a bowl of water and microwave for a bit. They love them.

I wonder with them free ranging if they’ve been laying somewhere else that you just haven’t found? Now, they just have nowhere else to lay, but the nesting boxes!

Thats so funny..My chickens were on strike too. We get 15 inches of snow and they laid 10 eggs in three days. Crazy girls!!

That’s what happened with my chickens. As long as I kept the light on, no eggs. My husband told me to turn it off so I did. The buggers started laying the next day and have been laying like mad ever since. Even through this bad weather and short days! I think the staff”s hours are mixed up. BUT, I’m not complaining. Have a great day!

mine are doing the same thing-no eggs for days and days then boom the snow hits and they are going crazy with eggs!!!

That’s funny. They have probably been laying all along and just hiding the eggs. Now that it’s too snowy to get to their preferred hiding places you are getting eggs.

You are my kind of mother–using paper/disposable plates for meals. Why waste time doing dishes by hand or using up valuable generator time? Glad to see you thriving and surviving!

We can’t use that much water to run the dishwasher or believe me, I wouldn’t be using paper plates! I’d love to do dishes right now!

Maybe the girls just needed a chance to go back to “simpler” times when everything is not quite so hectic.
I think the eggs look beautiful!
I can’t wait for my chickens! I’m getting chicks in the spring!

My hens are all laying, except 2 new ones, that laid only 5 eggs total from both of them, in 2 1/2 weeks time. Found out they are ill, so I isolated them and they are being treated. If you have time, check my blog post today – you may enjoy the photos!

So happy to see you back Suzanne, missed ya. I am swimming in eggs. I get about 2 dozen a day. No complaints. I luv ema nd we eat em everyday. Ah! Life in Ordinary Splendor. Merry of all to all!
