Sage and Chamomile

Continuing my holiday gift prep, I made sage and chamomile scented candles today. I’m on a candle binge. I’ll be making soaps in matching scents next.

It has rained and rained today, and there is already a flood warning for tomorrow. The teenagers want to declare a high water day for tomorrow so they can sleep in. They don’t like that we all have to get up and find out if it’s a high water day with a delayed opening. They’d rather just sleep through it. I never heard of high water days till I moved here. High water days are when the creeks and river are so flooded, kids can’t get to school. Usually it’s just a two-hour delay while the water goes down. Sometimes it’s a whole day off. Sometimes everybody else can get to school except us because we have to ford a river in one direction or drive through three creeks in the other.

We’ll see what tomorrow brings. In any case, I think I’ll make more candles!

Both high-water day and a Candle day sounds good to me! Enjoy…you home must smell wonderful right now with all your candle making.

  2. Nancy says:

I LOVE those candles…the color is beautiful! What do you use to color with?

  3. CindyP says:

Those are just gorgeous! You’re going to have me doing candles!

Love the soft blends of colors! Don’t even care if they smell good too! 🙂

    Your house must smell wonderful!

That’s quite a storm headed your way. I just looked at the forecast for your area: heavy rain tonight followed by snow tomorrow. But just think, if they declare a high water day the kids will be home to take care of many of those outdoor chores (feeding the livestock, chipping ice off the waterbowls, etc.) while you make candles. Won’t that be nice? 😉 So they couldn’t sleep in, anyway, right?

  6. Darlene in North Ga says:

    lol whaledancer!
What a friend to the kids. I’m SURE they love your logic. Now, if MOM buys it, they’re in business. lol
And hey, I thought there was a coop that needed cleaning out? 😉

  7. Muliebrity says:

Should I know how to make candles?

  8. Heather says:

Your followers here in VA would like you to send the bad weather in a new direction please  We really enjoyed the warm weather today. If the rain makes it down here the :sun: will go into hiding and we will have to break out the coats and dare I say it… socks for the lil’ guy. (he thinks they are evil)
    BTW the candles are beautiful!

I can see that all of today’s candles are in jar. Are they soy candles?

You and CindyP got me hooked on soap making….candlemaking is next!! People are going crazy for my homemade soap. I am using all I have made as gifts and people are wanting to buy it. I will be stocking up for next years rush and I think having candles to match the soap would be awesome!!

  11. Melinda says:

Suzanne! Please help! I am trying to find the post you did a few days ago where you were talking about your new love of soy wax candles and you mentioned your supplier. I can’t find the post to get the name of the company!!! Help please!

  12. Sheila Z says:

I love the colors. Scented candles and soaps make me sneeze. At least the ones with all those fake floral scents do, I bet sage and chamomile would be fine though. I hope to try my hand at soap making soon using essential oils and other natural stuff. If they make me sneeze then I’ll give them away. I’ve been buying local homemade soaps and they have been wonderful. Expensive, so I’d like to try making my own.

I never thought I’d want to try making candles, but after seeing yours I might have to.

  13. Luann says:

Melinda, I found it in the CITR newsletter, Wellington Fragrance

  14. Christina S. says:

How do you get your candles so flat on the top? Mine always create this great dip in the middle. Makes for very ugly candles!! :hissyfit:

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

Christina, try a soy blend! I have had trouble with other container waxes making a well after it sets up. You have to leave room to do another pour to top it off smoothly. This soy blend wax I’m using now makes a smooth candle in one pour. I love it.

  15. Liz in Wis says:

Love your soy candles. Today I will be making your crock pot bean recipe; love the maple syrup flavor. I have a nice leftover ham bone, to add to the beans.

  16. Linda Goble says:

Suzanne where do you find the little jars you use? Your candles look great.

  17. Cindy says:

    Beautiful!!!

Can you give us a little more detail on what the essentials would be to make these candles? Do you also get your scents from Wellington?
