Sweet Sixteen Girl

Jan
22

Hard to believe that sixteen years ago, she was a tiny little baby under six pounds, born three weeks early. She’s been the apple of my eye ever since. She turned sixteen today, and wanted to go to lunch at Soho’s at the Capitol Market in Charleston. It’s her favorite restaurant, though we hardly ever go (to that or any other restaurant).

They have a throne chair at the market now, for some unknown reason, but she decided it was for her.

We went shopping for Disney movies. That’s been a theme lately with her. She wanted Disney movies for Christmas, too. All the old ones she loved when she was a kid. We used to have them on VHS, but don’t have them anymore–and now she wants them all on DVD. I like that she still wants “little girl” things, though I couldn’t talk her into a Barbie doll……

Must be a thing about the Disney movies. My daughter is going though it too. That is Pokemon. She is 17 and almost bought a sweat shirt with a cartoon bright yellow pokemon on it. So glad it was too small for her. lol.

Deja vu! My baby girl was over two weeks early, under six pounds at birth. She’s now 26 and any minute now will be going into labor to present my granddaughter to the world. But at 26, she still wants crayons and a coloring book in her Christmas stocking. Thank you Morgan for remaining a kid at heart. You will have a richer life. Happy birthday and have a wonderful 16th year.

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
