The Latest Greatest Mr. Fix-It Guy

Jan
8

The new fix-it guy showed up today and he was just the right size to fit in the tiny crawl space opening. I said, “This looks promising! You’ll FIT!”

He got in under there. The dogs helped. Then he came back out and said, “It’s not going to be too bad.” And I said, “THAT’S THE BEST SENTENCE I’VE HEARD IN THREE DAYS!”

He’s going to bypass the plumbing in the wall and replumb the kitchen properly with new (and insulated) pipes that will expand rather than burst even if they do freeze–solving the problem FOREVER. He will be back in the morning to do the job.

To those of you who donated after the discussion in the comments here, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I did not have the money to fix this problem. This kitchen plumbing would have haunted me every winter for the rest of my life. For me and Morgan and my thirsty animals, you have given us peace of mind and proper plumbing and reliable winter WATER.

THANK YOU.

Suzanne, you have provided me with many a laugh, somedays almost to the point of tears. Love your site and your detemination to be self sufficient. Will be dropping a check in the mail tomorrow for you to use as you see fit. hoosiergal

Give that man a jar of pickles! I am so glad to hear that it “won’t be too bad”.

I was not able to donate anything, but I’m so thrilled that others could, and that you found the right Mr. Fix-It!!!

    YAY!!! :snoopy:

Hopefully there will be no more expensive repairs to be made for a loooong time! :woof:

    Suzanne–

So glad that this problem is being fixed for you — permanently! I’ve had frozen pipes and water running between walls before and saying it’s not fun doesn’t begin to describe the experience. You have my admiration for all you’ve done. Unfortunately, that does not pay the cost of such surprises as replumbing the kitchen!! Although I was not able to donate to such a worthy cause as new freeze-proof plumbing (in fact, I didn’t know there was a way to donate until just now), I am so glad that others of this community could. Once I get our next two books converted to eBooks and some money comes my way, I will send some yours just to keep this site going. I would be lost without my daily dose of CITR!! :hissyfit:

I’m afraid my paypal account balance is that nice round number, $0.00. However, I can send a check for a few bucks. Between the holidays and the burnt up turbo charger, I’m afraid it won’t be much.

Glad my comment yielded some good! I’ve been without water, and without hot water, neither is fun!

    Best —

I am so happy to read those words, ‘not…. too bad’! God bless him!

  9. whaledancer says:

Good news! Is he going to be using PEX pipe? I was reading about that the other day, just before your pipes froze. It’s supposed to be easier to use in retrofitting old houses (according to This Old House), because it’s flexible. That same flexibility makes it more resistant to bursting if it freezes.

  10. Jan Hodges says:

That is terrific news! And he came on a Sunday too. I am so glad you are going to get it done so fast and it doesn’t look as horrible as it might have been.

  11. Sheryl says:

Hope all is well by this time, and Morgan is home with her Momma =)
    God bless!

  12. moorege says:

Suzanne, I’d seen your button for awhile and planned to donate regardless. I’m happy to have been able to donate during the pipe fiasco – do you have enough to cover the pipes? I certainly hope so as your website is a daily highlight and worth its weight in pipe fixing money.

  13. Sheila Z says:

I think it was the canine cheering section offering Mr Fixit help that tipped the scales your way this time. May your water always flow in pipes and not through walls in the future!

  14. Janie says:

I must say, Mr. Fixit looks pretty good from that point of view….. I don’t have the extra to contribute but I’m going to make it a point to visit your site multiple times per day and click on the adds.

  15. Flowerpower says:

So glad that is settled. My finances at present will not allow me to give at this present time and I am sorry for that. So glad the new guy is gonna get you fixed up. Let us hope this is the last major problem for a very long time. You deserve a break! :happyflower:

  16. D1BeachBum says:

And my FIRST thought was when I saw the very green grass and him there in blue jeans and a t shirt was I am SO glad there isn’t a 2 foot snow drift and 12 below zero while you are trying to get this fixed…oh my… :snoopy: …this will be a GREAT chapter for your book!!! … you ARE writing a book, arent you?…LOL!!!
    To better days ahead!! Blessings!

I am so happy for you. I wish I could donate also, be alas we are limping along through another rainy spell with a balky septic system. We have not idea what it will cost to fix but it can’t be fixed while it is so wet. We are just thankful for good flushes so far this time. Two more rainy days to go. I hope he is right about it not being so bad. I am not so sure about our problem. 😥

  21. outbackfarm says:

That is great news!!! I sure wish I could have helped you some. But isn’t it so nice that there are people out there that are so giving? I love that. And I am happy for you that you and Morgan and all the critters will have running water again real soon.

  22. MissyinWV says:

Great news! Thank God you have water very soon!!

  23. kdubbs says:

    Suzanne,
I can imagine what it’s like to take a leap of faith to a new farm–lots of unknowns and financial worries. When something unexpected (and potentially expensive) happens, it can be brutal. I was happy to be able to donate something, even if it was just a few dollars. I think of this site as my daily magazine, and it’s been free to me for a long time. Really, I should pay a subscription fee! Thanks for sharing with us!

  24. FujiQ says:

That plumbing problem sounds like hell on wheels. Glad it is working out for you 🙂 God provides, always.

  25. Jersey Lady says:

Yup,it is important to have worker-worker folks who can fit into the nooks and crannies of one’s place. 2 of our SometimesHireds are able to skinny under our old farmhouse and into the low crawl space. Glad you have found one who fits your house too.
