The Lovely Jack

My dear Jack. He is so beautiful. Only don’t tell him that because he’s very manly. MANLY, I tell you. Manly. He’s handsome. He’ll take that. Only he doesn’t really care. All he cares about is Poky. And his food. (Not sure if that’s the right order.)

Jack has never been up here to the goat yard before. Poky lived up here with the goats for about a year before she moved down to the meadow bottom. Jack is new here. What are these….goat….THINGS?! He tries to ignore them, though they are a bit pesty. He refuses to eat with them. Jack doesn’t share food well, even with Poky, and definitely not with goats. Poky eased right back in to sharing dinner with the goats. Jack has to have his food separately. Because he’s slow Jack. Easy Jack. Laid-back Jack. Don’t-mess-with-him Jack. Stay-away-from-his-food Jack. It takes him about five times as long to eat as anyone else and he can’t stand competition. (He’s very interested in health and nutrition. He chews his food properly, according to dietary recommendations. Everyone else is finished and Jack is still eating.) Other than that, this has been a good move for Jack and he’s adjusting nicely. And I enjoy getting to spend more time with him! I love my donkeys.

In other news, in case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been changing up my posting schedule some. I’m releasing myself from my intense schedule of only posting first thing in the morning, shaking things up, feeling my oats. For example, yesterday evening I posted on my Crafts page. (Shocking! Posting in the evening! I felt very wild). If you keep up with CITIR on Facebook or Twitter, you’ll always know when a new post goes up. (Or if you subscribe to my RSS feed.) You can always also just check the Main page where you can see post titles, images, and dates to clue you in to what’s new.

Jack is a very handsome boy. You had some really terrific photos of him on the story about relocating him and Poky. Very photogenic.

Please watch Jack carefully. If he’s not been with the goats before, or been around smaller animals ever, he may kick them.
Love your website – it’s a daily visit!

I was noticing how pretty he is when you posted about moving them. Makes me want to get a donkey! I was wondering does Jack drop a lot of food when he eats? If that is why he takes so long to eat, perhaps he needs his teeth floated. Its amazing how much faster they can eat when their teeth are scraping against their teeth. At any rate, he is gorgeous and I think I might steal him!

I love your Jack and Poky stories and pictures. We have 6 donkeys, and I love them to pieces. All have their own unique personalities, and I find them amazing. Our stud, Hawthorne, just returned from a 6 week vacation with the vet’s jenny. It’s good to have him back home.

Jack is a good looking boy. I see someone else commented about watching Jack around the goats. If he doesn’t like anyone bothering him while he is eating make sure the goats are safely away from him (or maybe that Jack is safely away from those food stealing goats!:) I’m interested to see what you have to say about sewing, it is something I’ve never done but have wanted to try!

I have a dog that takes forever to eat. My English Shepherd gobbles her food down in seconds, while my Great Pyre/Burmese Mountain Dog cross puppy (9 months) takes two pieces of kibble out of her dish and sets them down on the floor. She then picks up one piece and eats it. Then the other. After those two pieces are eaten, she takes two more pieces out of the bowl… It takes her about 15 minutes to eat her bowl of dog food while the ES stands there, watching her and drooling!

    Goofy animals!
