I have those three chickens growing in my garden. The lacy wyandot my boys named Chuck is a very pretty bird and the favorite of the Rhode Island Red Rooster that the boys named Angelica. I have taken to calling him George now though. So much for a batch of sexed chicks.

My neighbor’s chicken’s come and visit every day, they love scratching around our horse yard. A few months ago, one of their chickens was being broody and my neighbor did not know what was wrong with her. I told her that chicken wanted to be a momma real bad and my neighbor could relate to that. They have no rooster, but we have a pair of Black Indian Runner ducks and our duck is not broody at all. I gave her some eggs for her chicken to sit on and one hatched. She is the happiest hen, a beautiful golden aracuna (spelling?) with her black duckling.

I enjoy all the pictures of your animals and their “antics”.

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
