Two Things

1. These frowny faces. What is that about? I’ll be specific in case any readers who live around here might know the answer, or have seen them, too. There are several houses on Highway 119 in Gandeeville that are sporting these frowny faces. On odd spots, like a trash bin, a rooftop, posts, and at one location, on a chimney. Painted DIRECTLY on the chimney. That’s a real commitment to the frowny face when you paint it on your chimney. WHY? What do the frowny faces mean? If you don’t know, feel free to spin conjecture! Morgan and I are wondering. If you do know, tell me! Here are a few examples:

2. I’m doing something. I can’t tell you about it right now because I have to get back to doing it. But I’m not moving to another farm (ha) AND I’ll tell you about it tomorrow when I’m done. Deal?

Now somebody explain those frowny faces! Or make something up, I don’t care, I need an answer even if it’s not the real one.

  1. Almost Heaven, WV says:

Suzanne….have no idea on the frowny faces. Hmmmm….make them some bread….rotflol Maybe we could start a new trend, and then everyone could put smiley faces up….lol Some things just give me a good laugh to see. Thanks. I’m sure that there is great reasoning behind this. I’m sure someone can fill us in.

  2. holstein woman says:

I don’t know Suzanne, if it were me I would ask?????

  3. Erzulie says:

They are the antidote to all those smiley faces. I used to have a “GO AWAY” mat at my front door. Really. :dancingmonster: :devil2:

  4. Jersey Lady says:

Apparently you are not the only person wondering about the frownies:

  5. SuzzyQ says:

Reminds me somewhat of the Mr. Yuk stickers that we put on poisonous stuff years ago. Could mean
“Keep Out” or “Stay Out” as in no trespassing. Other than that, I have no idea.

  6. yvonnem says:

Good grief, I’ve never seen them before! I’m in Kanawha County.

I’m going to guess and say it has to be something to do with people being unhappy with the greed in these United States…but, I really have no clue except they are unhappy over something! (I hope someone is not trying to buy up their property for God knows what reason!)

  7. Old WV Broad says:

First thing I thought was “No Trespassing”, albeit a jaundiced view.

Have not seen them down here in southern West Virginia.

  8. marymac says:

Probably has to do with the economy or politics, maybe both!

  9. Wendy says:

    A modern day scarecrow……

  10. outbackfarm says:

I have never seen any of those either. I would have to say they are something to do with politics. But I really have no clue. Hmmm… Can’t wait to find out. Very interesting indeed.

  11. leandjean says:

Perhaps they are saying “no visitors”, lol. They don’t appear to be friendly folk with those stickers at the gate!

  12. TeaCup says:

The frowny faces are to discourage aliens from staying if they land!

(Gee, I sold sf/f for 20 years…can you tell? smirk)

  13. wvhomecanner says:

Is the Gandeeville post office still open? Maybe it’s about the closings that are planned.

  14. STH says:

Yeah, I’m with LisaAJB on this–it looks like a play on the Wal-Mart happy face.

  15. STH says:

I didn’t really finish my thought there . . . it’s probably a protest against a planned Wal-Mart in the area that would draw business away from small, local shops.

  16. Miss Judy says:

” If Momma ain’t happy….ain’t nobody happy” LOL

  17. etwillowbranch says:

I would say that these prople displaying the face would be more than willing to explain it to a passer by, after all they are openly making a statement about something. Why not discuss it. I’m betting on the Wal Mart thing, makes sense. I’m living in China, they like Wal Mart here.

  18. jeninid says:

I think you’re all on to something with the WalMart idea! Sure does look like the logo. On a side note, thanks for that video link, Jersey Lady. The comment at the end of the video was great “Let’s get back to Spencer where it’s normal”! Loved driving along the road with those guys, it’s really pretty.

  19. UlrikeDG says:

They certainly look like the angry faces that were used to protest Walmart in California.https://www.mercedsunstar.com/2009/09/22/1070420/wal-mart-distribution-center-decision.html

  20. Sheila Z says:

I think it should be the international sign for quarantine…. as in, THIS FAMILY HAS THE PLAGUE, REMAIN AT LEAST 1,000 YDS AWAY!!

  21. wildcat says:

Maybe they are protesting the fracking that’s going on in WV?

Or maybe the other poster is correct, and it’s to tell the aliens to move along to the next house. 😀

  22. Anita says:

Maybe “Don’t even THINK of parking here!” ?? After having read the comments, I’m leaning toward upset with WalMart. I don’t know what WalMart has done or not done in Roane County, but that theory seems plausible.

  23. stacylee says:

One guy on the Gulf Coast did that on one side of his house that was looked upon by neighbors that he said were “mean and spiteful”. He also had a troll mooning them. Maybe there’s a fued going on?!!

  24. DancesInGarden says:

Maybe there has been a spate of yellow headed aliens in those parts, and placing the heads on poles and other structures is a warning to the others. Or the Walmart thing.

  25. CATRAY44 says:

Does this have anything to do with it? Kohl’s it taking over the old Walmart and a new Walmart Super Center is going to be built?

    https://activerain.com/blogsview/1864208/kohl-s-is-coming-to-roanoke-va-

  26. Jersey Lady says:

Suzanne-Great,I thought you would appreciate that last bit on the video.

  27. thistlewoodmanor says:

I don’t know, but they look a little discouraging to me.

  28. mammaleigh says:

I would stop and ask…but then I am a little nuts like that!

  29. Katharina says:

It’s an emoticon for “Mr. Grouchy-pants lives here. Enter at your own risk.”

  30. wormlady says:

I’m pulling for stopping and asking. I also noticed them for the first time not so long ago & wondered what they were about, but I don’t drive 119 that often any more, so you do the asking & the rest of us will be grateful.
I really think most people around here are pleased to have our Walmart, for those of you from away. Has it been 12 years already? There weren’t many stores left to close by the time they came.
That’s so funny if it’s just a Gandeeville thing. I assumed I’m just clueless re: popular culture.
