When I don’t have time to make dinner, the kids’ favorite quick meal is sliced Grandmother Bread made into pizza. Place slices on a lightly greased baking sheet. Drizzle the bread with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic. Spoon on some tomatoes. Then the cheese. Then the pepperoni. (You can do this with various toppings–this is what my kids like.) Bake in the oven till the cheese melts. Everybody’s happy!

A boy I used to babysit for liked this snack. His version was a slice of toast, pizza sauce, shredded mozzarelli, and 5 pepperoni’s. Then microwave until cheese melts~Not a bad little snack!

My son would love that. I HAVE to try making the Grandmother Bread soon. I have done something similar with flour tortillas and pita bread.

They used to serve these for school lunches back in the 60′s at my school. Only they used hamburger buns and called them pizza burgers. They really weren’t too bad. Or maybe that was compared to the other slop they served.

I make mini pizzas using english muffins topped with pizza sauce (or spaghetti sauce), brown hamburger, onions, green pepper and mozzarella cheese. Just had them for supper this past week. Anything we had left over was thrown together with some cooked macaroni and thrown into the oven for a quick hot dish for the next night’s dinner.

What a good, simple idea! I made G’ma bread for the very first time (first time ever making bread of any kind) two w’ends ago. Made it again this past weekend except I didn’t let it get done enough, so now it’s being used for french toast.

I even got all the stuff to make dough enhancer.

I can imagine the kids making these pizzas on the wood stove, in the castiron skillet. A small one might work.

Susie, my dh often makes pizza in a cast iron skillet on the wood stove. Works great.

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
