Jazz up those canned pork and beans with this easy recipe! The only time consuming part is waiting for them to bake.
Difficulty: Easy
Servings: 4 to 6
Prep Time: 1/2 hour Cook Time: 45 minutes to 1 hourIngredients
-3 cans (14 oz) baked pork and beans in tomato sauce
-6 thick slices naturally smoked bacon (this really makes a big taste difference if you can find it!)
-1 medium onion
-1/2 cup ketchup
-1 tsp to 2 tbsp of your favorite hot sauce (leave this out for kids)
-2 tbsp Dijon mustard
-2 tbsp tomato paste (optional)
-1 tbsp beef bouillon paste OR one cube(optional)
-1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Directions
Preheat oven to 350F.
Pour beans into baking pan. Add other ingredients except bacon and onion, stir gently to combine, taste for seasoning. (I do not add salt, as there is enough in the canned beans, but you of course can add as you like! Keep in mind the saltiness will intensify as it bakes and thickens.)
Chop the bacon into one inch slices. Mince the onion. Fry both together in a pan until brown. Drain and add to beans.
Bake uncovered in oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until browned and bubbly, and sauce has thickened.
