Cream of Tartar

Mar
28

I am in a pinch and have baking soda and also baking powder. The recipe that I am making calls for 1/2 teaspoon Cream of Tartar and 3/4 teaspoon Baking Soda. Can I use something else other than the cream of Tartar? I am “trying” to make the Angle Biscuits. Thanks!

There’s not really a good substitution I don’t think. I would use baking powder instead of both of the cream of tartar and baking soda. Baking soda and cream of tartar used together is like a double-acting baking powder…..

Cream of tartar helps the rise. If I was out of it, I would go ahead and make the recipe without it. It will still work!

I know when whipping egg whites, a tad of vinegar does the same as cream of tartar. Wonder if it would work in baking too?
