Ketchup, Please!

Aug

Does anyone have a recipe for homemade ketchup that is thick, not too sweet, and not too salty? I’ve been wanting to make it for years, but every recipe I’ve tried is very watery and bland even after a long simmer to reduce it. Thank you!

Mine is in the files but it’s rather sweet and not thick but certainly not bland. The recipe that is talked about a lot on Canning2 is Blender Ketchup and I think it’s all over the internet. Any ketchup recipe can be made thicker by cooking down until it mounds on a spoon – tricky though because it can stick and scorch at the end. A crockpot might help with that part. The Blender Ketchup seems to be closer to commercial ketchup from the comments I have seen, but I haven’t made it myself. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I think I’m going to make the blender ketchup this year, my kids will probably like something that tastes simular to what they are used to. :)
