What’s On Your Thanksgiving Menu?

Post by community member:

We’ve been discussing our favorite Thanksgiving side dishes and how we prepare our turkeys over on the forum.

I was reading through finding some new dishes I thought I would like to try. But I can’t find the recipes here on Farm Bell Recipes! Oh no! If you’ve got a favorite dish, please submit it? I need a few new dishes to surprise the family with this year!

I have a file of all my Thanksgiving Dinner Menus since I started hosting Thanksgiving Dinner (10 years this year!) along with loose recipes of new dishes I made that year. I’m working on 2010 now!

I have my turkeys figured out. We make 2 minimum — grilled and either roasted in the oven or in the rotisserie.

But I did spend quite a bit of time looking through the Side Dishes category and I’ve rounded up quite a few to choose from!

Grandma’s Green Bean Casserole
Grated Sweet Potato Pudding
Scalloped Corn
Maple-Spice Butternut Squash
Make Ahead Mashed Potatoes
Whole Berry Cranberry Sauce
Stuffing
Baked Zucchini Gratin
Seasoned Faux Mashed Potatoes
Brown Sugar Asparagus
Pistachio Salad

What do you have on your Thanksgiving Dinner Menu? I still have time to add to the menu!

CindyP…All your choices to pick from sound good. I have the usual stand-by’s of squash, peas, cranberry sauce, mustard pickles, mashed potatoes, turkey & stuffing, gravy. Depending on the size of the crowd..might have a baked ham also. Dessert would be a couple pies and perhaps for the kids Death by Chocolate! We all get steeped in tradition and my crowd isn’t big on trying something new. This year it might be just myself and my husband so my menu is subject to change and amount.

    CindyP,

Your menu sounds good, what time is dinner? We just made our menu last night. Your menu looks very similar to mine. In addition to your sides we’ll have sweet potatoes in various forms, cranberry applesauce, I just mix homemade cranberry sauce with my applesauce as well as mashed potato filling, glazed carrots and carrot souffle. I’ll post the recipes.

  3. CindyP says:

I am so hungry this morning thinking of Thanksgiving Dinner 🙂

Thank you Kelly for those recipes!

We have certain dishes that have to be made, but they all love when I bring out some new ones!

  4. Pete says:

It’s going to be rather low key around here, but that is OK. We have lots of social obligations later in the season, so are looking forward to getting to watch the Macy’s parade without interruption!

But, we normally cruise the neighbor’s houses and have a bite or two with each them. I’m looking for some great dessert ideas since that is what we take with us.

  5. Melinda says:

I host Thanksgiving at my house every year for my family and friends. This year I had a heart attack on October 22 so my daughters and daughter-in-law are helping, but we are still having it at my house. I think we have 25 coming.

    We are having:
    Roasted Turkey
    Spiral Ham
    Cornbread dressing with cranberry sauce
    Seafood dressing
    Green bean casserole
    Broccoli and rice casserole
    fruit salad
    candied sweet potatoes
    mashed potatoes with giblet gravy
    English Peas
    Seasoned Corn
    Homemade Cresent rolls
    Chocolate pie
    Pecan Pie
    Pumpkin Pie

  6. Melinda says:

P.S. I know it sounds like a LOT of food and it is…….but everyone had their favorites that they must have for Thanksgiving so rather than make anyone do without I just make it all!

  7. Jennifer says:

Pre dinner stuff to pick on while the meal is cooking:
olives (green pimento stuffed & Calamata)
Peppered sopressata, sliced cukes, cheese & crackers

    Dinner:
roast turkey with a cranberry glaze I got from Martha Stewart last year – best turkey I’ve ever made… will post when I get home
    sour cream mashed potatoes
Maple roasted acorn squash (from the garden) with candied pecans & Blue cheese
My sausage apple stuffing with dried cranberries
    peas
    corn
gravy (spiked with a little brandy!)
    snowflake rolls
& homemade cranberry sauce (to be made this weekend!)

Dessert: pumpkin pie (again spiked with a little brandy – sssshhhh- don’t tell! Grandma’s secret ingredient…) and maybe a salted caramel apple pie too…

  8. charleycooke says:

We always have: Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, mashed candied yams, green bean casserole, dinner rolls and a couple kinds of pie. This year I am going to make butter croissants and I’m trying out a couple new pies (I haven’t decided which yet though lol). Our meal always seems to be very traditional and our dessert is where we like to change it up! 🙂

  9. Natalie S. Cyphers says:

I am the Thanksgiving Day cook 🙂 My menu consists of a traditional dinner or lunch.

    Stuffed, roasted turkey
Boiled yams (nothing fancy there but I put brown sugar on mine when it hits the plate)
    Mashed potatoes
    Turkey gravy
No Crust Pumpkin Pie (CindyP’s recipe)
    Cheesecake with raspberries on top
    Dinner Rolls
Milk or whatever they want to drink…wine, tea, coffee, pop or soda

I can’t wait to have a few family members over to give thanks for what we do have in these tough, economic times! 🙂

  10. Eve says:

I add my german side to the traditional menu and make the sweet and sour red cabbage ( some folks call it purple cabbage ) . Our menu is the Texas style smoked Turkey, mashed potatoes, bread stuffing, stove top sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, veg all casserole, green bean casserole, red cabbage, gravy, dinner rolls. pumpkin pie and apple strudel.

  11. rileysmom says:

Wowzers! Can I just come to your house? I’ll bring whatever you ask!
We’re spending Thanksgiving at our friend’s home but, I ‘ll make a little turkey (grilled), cornbread dressing, spinach au gratin cranberry sauce and sweet potato pie for us. You just gotta have some leftovers!

  12. hershiesgirl says:

I too, cook for an army – not that there is an army here, but everyone has their “favorites” and my grown kids all show up with empty tupperware along with the dishes they bring. With any luck, we have a few leftovers for us! [You will see with all the different casseroles we love, why I have my turkey deep fried! — totally frees up the oven, and keeps hubby and the boys out of the kitchen!]

    Deep fried Turkey
    Dressing with Pecans
    Cranberry sauce
    Macaroni and Cheese
    Mashed Potatoes
    Three Bean Salad
    Deviled Eggs ~~ dozens!
    Giblet Gravy
    Turkey Gravy
    Green Bean Casserole
    Sweet Potato Casserole
    Black Olives
    Yeast Rolls
    Sweet Corn Casserole
and whatever odd thing someone decides we need to add. 🙂

  13. Jim in Colorado says:

You all have my mouth watering.
For something a little different. For your turkey, before cooking. I like to soak the bird in apple juice, over night. Then I do a dry rub on it and pop it in my smoker. But have had them also cooked in the oven, or deep fried.
The apple gives it a nice flavor. Also, how about trying to do the soak of the bird in cranberry juice. The meat after being soaked in the cranberry juice, will be a little pink. But cooks up yummy.
I will be doing a pork shoulder in the smoker, to go along with every thing else this year.
OK now I need all of your adress’s, so I can eat at every ones house. I have expando pants. So I’m set.

  14. Amanda T says:

Oh! You need to try this incredible stuffing – I make it in addition to the traditional sausage stuffing here . . . and there are NEVER leftovers of it!

  15. AimeeS says:

Its my dad’s turn this year, which I am really excited for he cooks good food!! I know a smoked turkey is on the menu this year. He asked me to make the pies. Ever since I started using Suzanne’s pie crust everyone asks me to make the pies! I will be making Suzanne’s deep dish apple pie and spiced cushaw pie with pumpkin instead. I will also be making a butterscotch pecan and banana split pie 🙂 Desert is sure to be huge since my brother is going to school to be a pastry chef, he will load us up with cream filled bliss!

  16. Pete says:

Oh, my!! Looking through these menus, there had best be some recipes posted to go along with them!!!

At our house we may not sit down for the traditional menu, but we DO eat all the traditional dishes sometime during the month because we just LOVE all that wonderful stuff. So we do sequential leftovers instead of having them all at one time. It still works! 😉

  17. CindyP says:

Oh my! Lots of new ideas! Thank you!!!

We should have a virtual Thanksgiving Dinner…everyone submit photos of their favorite dish and submit it. We’ll have leftovers together 🙂

  18. Larissa says:

That is a great idea Cindy! So many food possibilities, I won’t be able to choose. I guess I will just have to make them all.

Have I mentioned food blogs make me tubby? 😀
