I’ll Have My People Call Your People

Me and Bambi, running from the paparazzi…..

Confession: I google myself. This is part obsessive pastime, part procrastination tool. Usually, I find reviews I didn’t know about, or blog posts where someone is talking about one of my books or workshops. Once I found out I had been up for an award months before, and found out in the same breath that I hadn’t won (which was handy–cut out the whole nervous nomination period).

I was googling myself this morning and this one is headline news: I’m famous. No, really!! Okay, stop laughing!!! I have proof!!

At the “Irish Baby Names” website, they list names of Irish origin along with famous bearers of each name. On the page with “S” names, you’ll find such luminaries as Sean Connery for Sean, George Clooney for Seoirse (Gaelic version of George), Sylvester Stallone for Sylvester, etc. And this (see it here by scrolling down to the entry for Suzanne):

Suzanne
Hebrew: ‘Lily’. A form of Susan which is well established in Ireland. A name introduced into Ireland by the Anglo-Normans. It has become very popular in modern times. Famous names: singer songwriter Suzanne Vega and author Suzanne McMinn.

Thunk.

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
