Not really my idea of a true apple crisp, but this is SO good!  Use good cooking apples – your favorite.  I usually mix varieties.

Apple Crisp

4 large apples, peeled and sliced

1 cup sugar, divided

nutmeg and cinnamon to taste

4 tablespoons water

1/2 cup butter

1 cup flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Sprinkle apples with nutmeg, cinnamon and 1/2 cup of sugar; add water.  Place in a 9 inch square baking dish.  Cream butter and remaining sugar.  Add flour and mix well.  Crumble and pat this mixture over apples and bake 30-45 minutes.  Serves 6.

(This is great served warm with vanilla ice cream.)

I'm going to try this. It sounds so simple. Right up my alley. I love cooked cinnamon apples –Happy Butterflyit makes the whole house smell so country and homey while baking in the oven!

Hi Stellina!

Doesn't this sound good? I'm glad you are going to try it.

I noticed this is your first post — would you go on over to the Welcome Forum and introduce yourself? We'd love to get to know you.  And while you are there, put a pin in the map — I don't think we have one from Italy yet.

My recipe is a little different.

Butter casserole dish, fill with peeled apple slices, coat apples with 'apple pie' spice, (use a lot).  You can dot butter over the apples, but don't use much.  The topping is 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 stick of butter, mix until it crumbles. spread over apples and bake at 350 degrees about 30 mins.  I have also used half sugar and half Splenda, both work great!!

Don't cry because it's over—smile because it happened!
